Im telling you guys there is a rift going on with this team right now. I cant decide if its young vs old or just a pocket of malcontents but something is up. Neu has to fix some internal issues before we can ever fix the problems on the field

Yup. Guys who were never a problem have become a problem or are perceived to not be on board.

If Hoke is coming back to the MAC, we might as well get him. Even if he is not the greatest coach, he is a perfect fit for BSU.

I don’t understand how there can be much of a rift for these guys. Isn’t most of the team the current staffs recruits? Additionally if this staff was let go I would think most anybody would agree that it would take minimum 3 years to see the quality of a new staff even with some success with those on the current roster the first year or two. I think there’s some internal changes in football in general. Some of what is being said about BSU is being heard in other conferences, other parts nationally. I hope these kids can regroup and play well these last two games, end the season on a good feeling/positive note. Go Cards!

Losing brings out the darker side of players/coaches. People get frustrated and stuff gets said to each other that maybe shouldn't be. And then it feeds on itself and before you know it you've got factions and cliques and guys who support the coaches and guys who no longer do, etc.

When you see offensive backs throwing temper tantrums out of the field of play when plays come in from the sideline (and the head coach is calling the plays) you have a team problem.

And when several on the defense quit...

When you see offensive backs throwing temper tantrums out of the field of play when plays come in from the sideline (and the head coach is calling the plays) you have a team problem. That is the most worrying symptom. I can see bickering where the starter gets benched or a player thinks he should play and doesn't. Not good, but understandable and a split among players, young v. Old or whatever need not cripple the team out there on the field. The griping about a play does, can tip the defense, and has to impact execution.

I advocated keeping Neu to give him his chance to right this ship UNLESS he has lost the locker room. If the players are not ''drinking the Kool Aid'' (ie. buying into Neu's system and thinking) we might as well fire him now and start looking for a new coach. If the locker room is not there we will waste another season or two. IF the vast majority of the players are still with Neu then he has a fighting chance. It is and will be the AD's job to make that determination. My guess is that the AD will be watching the last games of this season extremely close to see how the players AND staff react and perform to and for Neu.

Another meaningless W against an FCS cupcake; a solid win over the 2nd worst team in the conference at home; and a 1-point win against the worst team in the conference on the road just doesn't cut it in year 3.
The losses are once again getting more embarrassing as the season continues.
He badly needs to win out.

Reading between the lines of O’garas articles I just get the feeling something isn’t right. Even o’gara went so far as to question Gilbert’s injury and pursued the was he suspended route. Answer was, not suspended but lost the starting job. Just, “need better effort” coach speak.
I still think something happened in that locker room, maybe even after cmu game. We have a spirited, gritty comeback win over CMU and the players are elated. Yet in the Homecoming game, with a chance to make hay, and it’s homecoming and all that, and we come out with 2 young guys starting at DB instead of the regulars, Riley is way out of sync with the WRs, the team is flatter than a board, and the defense half asses it. On top of that we are very sloppy and undisciplined, with several unsportsmanlike penalties. It was embarrassing.
How were we not ready on all cylinders for that game coming off a road win? How were there night and day differences in that team one week after the win at CMU?

Something may or may not have gone on with the team in the locker, but the HC decided the two younger guys should play at DB, the regulars didn’t start/play much is his decision. I get the feeling maybe in combination with Gilbert or some of the other things listed that Neu’s trying to maybe prove a point. “Get with the program, do your job or don’t play” the kids today aren’t the same as even 5-10 years ago. Hopefully things are sinking in & maybe getting to a more even keel. Go Cards - beat those pesky broncos!!!

Gilbert getting plenty of playing time, so not sure what happened since that article was written. I thought he was third stringer for this one?
