Very odd overall to return, but it's good for Brady. His style, personality, motivational ability is best in college. HC at a lower level than UM is a job Brady can do and do well. He's a proven quantity, no huge responsibility for fund raising or alumni politics not as much PR and management skill required. No pitfalls from trying to manage a really excellent staff which are stars in their own right, and not lots of high stakes games where performance gets microscopic scrutiny. Well, it's good to know your limits, right?

Isn't it clear by now Brady Hoke is just a mediocre football coach. Stan Parrish gave him Nate Davis at Ball State and for a couple of years at SDU and Michigan he did well with the other guy's material. Look back at some of the game time decisions he made while he was the head coach here. Many bonehead judgments were made but the 2008 team was so strong they bailed him out and earlier in his tenure here they did not. You are so right, but I'd also add Stan's recruitment just in a general sense. The man attracted offensive players, there's no doubt about that. That offensive line was the real key to our success - NFL caliber. Plus lots of talent at RB and WR.

I have said a number of times Ball State owes Stan Parrish a debt of gratitude for his stay in Muncie. His recruits produced teams that won 12,6,9,10 games in addition to two of the best ever BSU QBs. It is really a tragedy that his head coach hiring did not work out.

All good or great coaches had great assistants, players and a little luck .... Think of any coach and apply it (and see) ... 12-0 takes leadership.

Brady was a good fit at BSU, had strengths in motivation of players and staff
Not as strong in management skills, had much more trouble with that, handling the media, alumni and donors, and living in the fishbowl of scrutiny at UM.
That's a different job and needed different strengths than BSU. Much greater scope of demands of the job, not to mention differing situation with coaches, recruits, players, fans, alumni, community (which is national).

Brady only had 2 winning seasons in 6 at bsu. One of them just happened to be glorious and historical. (And then a huge letdown). He was lucky to keep his job and only did because of Stan Parrish’s recruiting and his offense. It all came together and then Brady bailed.

Technically the 2nd L was Parrish as Hoke was gonzo.
