Received a personal call yesterday about this facility and an update on funding.
Very encouraging and without going into detail will say with certainty it is going to happen.
Money has been committed from a lead donor and a handful of other major donors totalling nearly half the projected cost of the project.
Final costs are not firm yet but we are talking about roughly $18-20 million.
It will be built north of the golf complex and eastern portion of current practice fields.
It will encompass an entire field including end zones with a minimum of an additional 10 yards of space around the perimeter.
The facility will be large enough to accompdate multiple sports needs and that of the Marching Band.
I like the idea of it being multi functional but make no mistake it’s priority and primary function is for football.
Ground breaking could be as soon as a year away.

Although it does mean less money for buying out coaches, paying for good assistants.
It is probably a necessity for us to stay in the MAC but not sure it is that huge in getting us to a level of success we would like, at least in the foreseeable future.
Long term bets on college football don't look that good to me.

The General wants to know if there is any money allocated for more basketballs?

Unfortunately, as long as your long term strategy is tied to the MAC, throwing money at D1 football is just a BAD business decision.

I think we have to have it to play MAC football. I will also agree Tarheel the entire league throwing money to play in FBS is a bad business decision. I can not see us playing in same group as P5 in 10 yrs nor will 80% of the Group of 5 Conference schools.

Yep. In the big picture it’s a waste. But if we’re going to be in the Mac we can’t be the only school not to have one. Lembo figured football would only really need it 3 or 4 times a year. But recruits want to see one.
I do like the idea of having a building where all of our outdoor sports can get work in no matter the weather, plus the band having a good space to rehearse when needed. It will help baseball and softball for sure.

Regardless of how people feel about the MAC G5 football etc. etc. you don’t build a $20 million indoor facility if you have any notion of dropping down a level.
I have always made it clear if we drop down to a lower level than I am no longer interested.
I wont speak for others that have been boosters since we participated in the old Indiana Colligiate Conference and struggled to be accepted into the MAC but I am not about going backwards only forward!

You know, I think this is a game changer. It will take the program from something nobody cares about and loses tons of money, to something that nobody cares about and loses more tons of money.
And it certainly addresses the concerns that other MAC programs were losing more tons of money than we were.

Explain to me how losing more money ( to the detriment of all other sports) is going forward. Edit: Sorry General didn't read your post.

Regardless of how people feel about the MAC G5 football etc. etc. you don’t build a $20 million indoor facility if you have any notion of dropping down a level. We plan on staying yes. But if/when it all crashes, it's a large sunk cost. It allows us to kick the can down the road a few years and avoid a hard decision. We can hope the multiple uses let us get enough value, but the cold numbers don't look good.

Dropping down to FCS doesn't really save all that much money.
