Life in the MAC with the grad transfer rule. It’s becoming a thing now. (His numbers don’t look all that impressive to me given what top Mac QBs normally put up and he didn’t look great vs niu. Down year for Mac QBs?)
In that article Riley neal is listed as NFL draft able. He’s definitely got the physical tools.

Maybe Vanderbilt pulled the trigger too soon on Neal.

Maybe good for the players, but an unfortunate trend for college football fans.

Face it guys D1 is split in two & we are = to AAA. A feeder program if all works well we next December will be talking how our xs led Kansas St in rushing, Vanderbilt in passing & Va Tech in receiving. This is the future of MAC programs.

Hazelton moving up and making the splash he has is definitely not the norm and good for him.
I always felt that Neal was too mechanical or robotic or something. I don't know if it was him or the staff or both but best of luck to him too. He and the Gilbert can and will be replaced.

We'll come to them to give them a jumpstart or change a flat tire. Metaphorically.

Really talented but, mechanical or not reflexive or something. Not a read through the progressions kind of qb. More of a, run the play as called even if it’s gonna fail huge kind of player. If the throw was a 3 yard out he threw it, even if the wr was triple covered and another guy was wide open 20 yards downfield. But man, let Riley run and he’s really good. If vandy designs around that they’ve got something. As long as he stays healthy. Assuming hunt comes back healthy, Gilbert is replaced. We have 4 backs who can play. We’re good there.

This grad transfer rule is another bad idea that is destroying the game, and tilting the field even further in favor of the Power 5.
Need a solid QB to fill in while your 5-star recruit gets academically eligible? Steal one from the Go5.
It's already being exploited to the detriment of the MAC and the rest. Imagine what other rules will come down in the next few years to keep the Go5 down.
The NCAA is a joke.

It’s definitely hurting mid majors. Doesn’t help group of 5’s at all. We don’t get guys who’ve been studs. We get players who didn’t play much and want the chance to get on the field/court.

The easy fix for non-Power5 schools is to NOT redshirt your better recruits. To take advantage of the Grad Transfer Rule, guys still have to obtain an Undergrad degree first, which usually takes four years. Hardly any kids will have a degree already obtained by their 4th football season if they don't sit out a year, whether redshirt or normal transfer - but with sitting out a season and being around in summers and with tutoring, it's fairly easy to have a 4-yr degree before your 5th sport-season. BSU should be thanked by Neal and Gilbert for doing the legwork to get their extra year via medical redshirt in '17 otherwise neither has this opportunity to go somewhere else.

janny I had thought about that & think it is the way for MAC schools to go. I also wonder how likely is it for P5 schools to take linemen as grad students. ( I think they benefit the most from 5th yr)

We can't afford to redshirt good recruits anyway.
But.
What that will mean is they can still benefit from the minor leagues, play a year or two, then transfer the old fashioned way. Kid plays 2 years big time, hopes to go pro. Gets some glory and spotlight instead of MAC crowds, gets 3 years in big league program.
There is no real good way for mid majors to win this game.
