Found this discussion on the MAC board regarding comments from commish Steinbrecher regarding the MAC's playing midweek games in November, etc. This apparently was from an interview from early DEC18; interesting points/comment were: (Interviewer point)- MAC football has found a niche by playing a portion of its schedule on Tuesday and Wednesday, when there is no competition on other over-the-air or cable networks.
Commish response: "The Mid-American Conference has been playing midweek games in the month of November for 20 years. This has provided the Conference with a unique opportunity to grow its national brand and has facilitated the national recruitment efforts by our coaches and institutions. The November scheduling slots permit the Conference's title race to play out in front of a national audience. Since we have begun playing on non-Saturday dates, virtually every FBS conference has now added non-Saturday time slots as we are all seeking unique opportunities that enhance exposure and revenue."(Interviwer question) -The 2018 MAC bowl lineup is once again impressive. How do bowl game appearances by MAC schools draw national attention to the conference's overall exposure?
Commish response: "Bowl games receive a tremendous amount of exposure via the media and are all nationally telecast. The bowls provide a tremendous celebratory culminating event for the student-athletes and fans alike. We have been fortunate to cultivate and foster relationships with some outstanding bowl partners who do an exceptional job of providing memorable experiences for those who participate."Fair enough. Appears his head is firmly stuck in sand....oh, and the question about “2018 MAC bowl lineup” being impressive is almost laughable.
I still can’t figure out why MAC football has went downhill for 20 years 🤔

I still can’t figure out why MAC football has went downhill for 20 years 🤔 I have to agree, BIGTIME! If it has helped build the brand, why have we been so bad during bowl season. And of course there was the wonderful treatment of NIU when they played in the BCS game - NOT! ESPN uses the MAC to fill their need for live broadcast of sports, that’s it. Watch our bowl games and it is nothing more than a promo of their Power Five games. Meanwhile, many alum can’t make the mid-week games and actual attendance is way down, even on saturdays. IMO, it also discourages fans from going to the FEW games on saturdays. ESPN SUCKS! It was far better when Ball State broadcast its own games and we played on Saturdays. And now you have to buy ESPN+ to watch Ball State basketball and many other MAC games. ESPN wins, MAC sports fans lose.

If you're the head of a outfit with no real market and that can only stay afloat by plunging your hand in the pockets of a lot of completely uninterested students and taxpayers, then you really don't have any choice but to fill your talk with a lot of euphemisms and flat out bullshit. But who is this "interviewer"?
"MAC football has found a niche by playing a portion of its schedule on Tuesday and Wednesday, when there is no competition on other over-the-air or cable networks"
That's like talking about a fat ugly girl who has "found a niche " being willing to go into the back room with any guy at any time

Ive told you guys before this commissioner will not bend when it comes to football.. He will go down like the titanic And that is exactly what will happen. MAC football, while sort of fun for most of us, is an absolutely horrible economic proposition. Football accounts for over half of our already pitiful (relatively speaking) athletic budget. We are badly outpaced by the weakest of P5 schools, and most other mid-major conferences and roughly the top 50 FCS programs also have better football facilities and resources than we do. The pro-football argument is at best emotional, one that most BSU and MAC fans will ignorantly take to the athletics grave with them. Let's assume we spend just half of the "huge" (to us anyway) investments in football facilities and budgets the last 15 years on men's basketball (and perhaps on sports with good potential like baseball and women's volleyball)...do you have any idea where our men's basketball program would be today? 15 years of horrible fiscal responsibility is roughly $200 million that we couldn't afford to throw away. Also, keep in mind that doesn't account for the massive Title IX collateral damage football causes with its outrageous budget and 85 scholarships, meaning we have to spend precious millions on other completely unproductive sports. Schools like Butler, Dayton, Xavier, Marquette, Wichita State, Creighton, and on and on really cashed in on the football vacuum the last couple of decades. We had our opportunities, but instead chose to sit on the sidelines and watch, all the while holding onto our precious football (that no one really cares about, as you quickly learn when you go to a game).

Again, love BSU football, but I really don’t care what level they play football as long as they compete most years.

I just noticed that the interview is from the bowl association's website. They obviously have an interest in the mac continuing to squander large amounts of money getting their heads kicked in at 5th rate bowls
It also explains how an "interviewer" can get out questions like this without chocking in laughter:
"The 2018 MAC bowl lineup is once again impressive."
Seriously, people who insult the public intelligence like that should be beaten with ball bats
