I thought it was a hard foul, maybe flagrant 1. I didn’t think it was all that vicious. Probably because it was an intentional blow with an elbow. I agree, he didn’t hit him real high. Coach didn’t seem to object to the call though. I DVR'd the game and watched this several times. The foul does not look that flagrant and Trey played it up. What got Knapke ejected was at the end of the motion he jerked his elbow up into Trey's jaw. That pretty obviously was not an accident.

I thought it was a hard foul, maybe flagrant 1. I didn’t think it was all that vicious. He gave the refs no choice. It was clearly intentional, and to the neck. At least if he was going to get a blow in he could have made it worth his while. Really stupid, but he doesn't strike me as a really intelligent player.

Since they have never had a true low post player and don't know what one looks like. The formula to beat Toledo is pretty clear: 1) Contest their threes (it's really all they have), 2) Fluster them (they seem like a mentally weak team, just like their coach) with tight man-to-man, and 3) Force them to play D (which they don't do) with good ball movement, dribble penetration, and inside-out play. I'm sure the rest of the league appreciates the scouting report we provided last night.

Couple things.. What happened with Knapke what ever it was it took place on the other end and they never showed a replay? Another observation late in the game when When Toledo started the full court press there was a made basket. Moses was set and ready to get the ball into Tayler before Toledo could get the press set up. Gunn slaps the ball away and it rolls around allowing Toledo to get the press set up. Tayler loses his mind and screams at Gunn. Gunn then does something again on the next inbounds play and Tayler calls a timeout. He screams at Whit "get his ass out of here" Whit listens and Gunn is on the bench. A Toledo fan looks at me and goes Who is the coach Persons or the guy on the bench.. I laughed and said we were not sure most of the time. That Persons bit is both funny and disturbing at the same time. What is Gunn doing? What coach lets a player yell at him like Whitford does Persons? And most importantly, who the hell is gonna coach the team next year when Tayler is gone? With Toledo pressing it independently made sense to get Gunn out, get a better ball handler in the game. Whit was going to make some adjustment at the time out.
With Persons' emotional make up, and the heat of battle it is a little less disturbing. Everybody on the team has seen him explode. Less destructive by far than it looks. The worry is and the important thing in the middle of the contest is to make sure he is focused and in control the next play. Use the emotion.
You wonder how that exchange is dealt with later. Everybody has also seen Whit get on his case in practice about his emotional reactions.

At halftime of the Buffalo-Eastern Michigan game while discussing the Ball State-Toledo game one of the Analysts made the statement to Ish's Dad that Ish was going to be out the rest of the season. Ish's Dad didn't contradict that statement. Maybe he didn't hear the statement correctly, but if he did than he believes his son is done for the rest of this season. I just rolled back the halftime show after reading this. He actually doesn't say "for the season," but rather "unfortunately your son is out with an injury." The game announcers said six weeks, not dad.

That was more what I had heard, but it is still likely he misses a lot of games. That will mean too many minutes on Persons and KJ, and Josh has to continue to hit outside. With Hazen out an indefinite period we'll have to play short handed for half the conference season or more. But,there is some hope we are at full strength for the MAC tourney. Would be a switch to see us get better in the last 6 games and be our best then! Have got to have Gunn get his head screwed on, Josh continue to play above his level and figure out how to get something more out of Nehls. Likely we will see Huggins a little more than we want. All that adds up to losing a couple of games when we can't get enough out of the bench when starters falter. First 5 are playing awfully well now, though. That can work in regular season. Mallers doesn't have the stat line, can improve, but some of that is he is working on D and trying to get the ball to others including a new player we have named Teague who hits 3's and plays hard, and with Toledo game we're seeing reason to get it to Moses. I don't think you will see Huggins unless the game is totally out of reach. I think Whitford will play 4 guards before exposing Huggins to someone like Thompson of Eastern Michigan or Perkins of Buffalo. Of course Whitford might not have 4 guards depending on foul trouble or additional injuries. I wonder at what point it becomes extreme enough to "burn" Coleman's redshirt? Also have to wonder even if Hazen can play by conference tournament time what his conditioning and effectiveness will be like.

It will not be dealt with as it happens every game. I assume since its more common than not Whit likes Taylor taking the leadership role and does not mind him getting all up in everyones shit

Ok well if thats true that sounds like a career ending injury. Im not sure how a couple months of rest could cure something like that

I get the sense it’s a Very long term issue. You don’t mess with a back. I’ll frankly be surprised if they clear him this season, if ever. Is it an injury or a defect?

The only two negatives I have for last night's game are no bench points and Huggins should have been given some points. At one point we were up 26-27 points. Seemed like a perfect time for 3 or 4 minutes. I'm okay with Maller's stat line as he is hounding on defense and working hard on all ends of the floor.

By the way they announced the attendance at Toledo as something like 4200. You were there right? Did it seem like that many to you. It was hard for me to judge because the place is small not like worthern at all. While I am mentioning that we really need to do something like they have done with the remodel. Worthern feels cold and cavernous very uninviting.
