It's tough to lose him, but is he really that good of a coach? The OLine has been one of the biggest weaknesses over the past few seasons. Maybe we don't have great players at that position, but he has been involved in the recruiting of them.

So then Arizona has misread his ability to coach?

I think we ought to consider former players Michael Switzer currently @ ISU for the opening & if he is not making more money than we can afford Dan Gerberry @ WVU. Both of them spent time on NFL practice squads. I suspect Gerberry is probably out of our price range.

So then Arizona has misread his ability to coach? I don’t know. Just saying that the OLine has been terrible. It’s hard for me to get too upset about losing him.

We’ve not had the players. It takes time to build a good oline.

Each time I see we’ve “lost another good coach”, I look at the 4-20 MAC record (similar caliber opponents) and scratch my chin.

No, we weren’t good but good Olines don’t walk in off the street and are instantly good. We’ve been injured there, lost several starters, plus Thomas Lopez didn’t stick. If devan sucked I don’t think a Power 5 is gonna hire him.

You could tell Devan was a good coach by watching him and his interactions etc. I think his cupboard was pretty bare and injuries to the line were real. Losing both Allen(who everyone thought was a lock) and the Lopez Killed the o line.

I still think after what ISU did last fall you see if Switzer is available. Let's face it OC was a promotion to get him a raise. The o line was a strength of the offense there.

Knowing our financial issues and lack of backing would any of our up and coming former players really want to come back. They allready fully understand the deck is stacked against them. Not to mention its obvious that Neu's seat is hot and that will play any into any all ready employeed coach's decision. I think the best bet is to find a good coach from a recently fired staff and rent him for a year

Could be. On the other hand, if you end up hiring Switzer and Neu gets canned this year, what are the chances we might go after Mallory if he has another good year at ISU? Then we'd just be reuniting them a year later.

I don’t think OLine coach at Ball State is a step up from OC at ISU for Switzer. Getting this season of play calling will be very beneficial for the future. If Neu is key go maybe they go after Mallory and then he is OC or maybe they finally hire Faulkner for head coach and he also had ties with Switzer and would probable give him an interview. I’m all for hiring Ball State guys and always will be so I’d love to see both Gerberry and Switzer make their way back to Muncie.
