I didn't watch, but I noticed on espn.com that attendance was listed at 462 in a 10,000 seat arena. Was it really that bad?

Hawkins has been a great recruiter, but has underachieved almost every season. Now I think his recruiting is falling off, so what's left?
Welcome to BSUish.

Hawk is in trouble with the serious fans only. WMU like us is not going to pay for 2 coaches at the same time. They may try to get him to take a newly created university promotion job at the same salary but it only happens if he agrees to it.They also are probably the only team in the league to match us in players lost Johnson,Moore, Printy, & Whitens all out for yr. All had started games prior to this yr & all but Printy did not play a game this yr.

Saturday we have western and if there is one coach I really Hate its Hawkins. I mean I hate that guy and can not wait to heckle him him till he explodes. I keep my season tickets where they are for this game.. Beat Western You could also say that the destruction of our program was a major benefit to him.
....Sometimes you'll see coaches who have consistently had decent success suddenly drop off the table. I think in most cases it's that they just reached burnout on recruiting. Which is understandable. It's time-consuming and has to be potentially extremely aggravating - with your livelihood depending on the decisions of teenage boys. Great points.
I understand his travails but have zero sympathy. He's not been a great coach, and his team seemed always to depend more on mugging the opponents than on any particular genius preparation, but that is why he pisses us off, usually a challenge and hard to play against.

Well if he's let go, we should hire him as flattening and mugging coordinator. We could use some of that.

Even if they walked, I would say the 462 who showed-up were tempting fate for going. Of course I don't offhand know NIU's normal attendance. It might not be much more than 1,000?
