Man a win is a win but there was no life at wothern today.. Everyone(fans) including the team just kinda went through the motions.. Only one fired in the whole building was Hawkins fester looking ass. Our PA guy was the only excitement today with his release the Brachen Calls.. We should play a game and come up with great catch phrases and try to get the PA guy to slip them in.. Our own source of entertainment. Who's with down with that game>
So in other words, it was a typical Ball State basketball game in February?

We sleepwalked for 30 minutes, and WMU is seriously awful. I can't get too excited about this one. Sleepwalk too strong. True for a couple of players. Good to see Whitford jawing with refs at half. He was into the game.

What are you talking about; I think it's fantastic our coach "was into the game". What more could any fan or University ask for ? Truly hope he receives special recognition from the Athletics Department. Going above-and-beyond like this should be rewarded in some way.

What I think is sad is that you felt the need to mention that the coach was working the refs, that he was into the game. Like it's something so out of the ordinary that it warranted kudos.

Man it was good to see Brachen Hazen on the court again. Praying he can remain healthy. Good we don't have a Tuesday game so Walton can rest that ankle, also for Ish and Gunn.

We sleepwalked for 30 minutes, and WMU is seriously awful. I can't get too excited about this one. I’d say we slept walked the last few minutes of the first half where we should have had a double didget lead at the end of the half. That was very disappointing. Luckily they played a strong second half.

Here are my personal observations
1. We were awful in the first half. Thankfully Western is terrible on a really epic scale. 2. Hazen and Mallers carried us in the second half. 3. Persons had a quiet but decent game. Took much better care of the basketball. 4. Moses and Teague did not play well. Teague in particular is forcing the issue and took some bad shots. They also had 9 turnovers between them. 5. Neither team had ten points until the ten minute mark of the first half. It was atrocious. Had we been playing anyone decent we would have been down double digits. Another “not ready” start. Why is that? 6. Obviously we shot well especially behind the arc. That cures a lot of woes. When we shoot our typical percentage we will continue to struggle IMO. 7. Our issues are not fixed. I’m glad we won and we are much better than Western. We should have beaten them as we did but we don’t look cohesive or sharp. Perhaps that will improve over the next two weeks.

The regular slow starts, especially at home are very concerning. But it’s a Whitford hallmark. What ever he does or doesn’t do to prep his teams to play doesn’t work. But I’m sure it’s very analytical and processy.

This is a pure guess but I think in our effort to stay loose and relaxed we flip too much the other way. You obviously don’t want to come out tight or nervous but playing too much the other way is equally bad. Whitfords style is very calm and laid back and we tend to mirror that until the game gets going and we realize it’s on. Against better teams it can dig you an early hole if you don’t shoot well at the start which is a hallmark of his teams. Fast starts at home are a rarity.

We played fairly solid ball against a really bad opponent the last 9 minutes of the game, and that's it.

We should have beaten them as we did but we don’t look cohesive or sharp. Perhaps that will improve over the next two weeks. Teague has mostly become a ghost on offense except for the occasional force. I attribute this to extremely poor coaching and game planning for the most part. Teague is the most talented player on the team, IMO, and is the only player on the team who has the ability to greatly impact the game on both ends of the floor. Hazen played much better than I expected, but he and Mallers need to prove they can play well against decent to good opponents. Aside from the NIU game, Moses has largely had the look of a burnt out senior kind of coasting to the end (another coaching and leadership issue, IMO). Persons was pretty dominant for a stretch of the second half, but his selfishness has really surfaced this year, and I think it has both helped and hurt the team much more than people realize. Thompson is better than people give him credit for. He hustles and leads, and might be the only kid on the team that plays solid D every possession. Nehls seemed to be a little more of a part of the team on the floor yesterday than in past games. Given the brutal quality of WMU, it's hard to tell if this team is on the uptick yet or not. Hawkins looks like he's halfway out the door.

From what I saw, suspect first half, respectable 2nd half and they essentially did what they needed to vs an awful team at home. The bench was solid. Akron in 6 days will be more telling to have an idea of they've shaken the Worthen yips or not.
