4-7 Cards enter three game stretch against middle of MAC.....Akron 6-5, Miami 5-6, Central 5-6
How we come out the other end tells us if a “deeper team” really matters.

Will also tell whether we get a home or road first round game.

Probably take a few games to get everyone back at strength. I hope Ish comes back and can play as well as he did in the game where injured. That would be big. Hazen seems pretty good out of the box. Zach Gunn is depth.
It will matter more at MAC tourney time. Right along with the draw. Depth doesn't matter much if we get Buffalo in an early game. Then what would matter is everyone hitting shots at an uncanny rate, and Moses, Teague playing like possessed.
The only good news from the injuries was that we got Nehls and Huggins into game action and they both looked a little better after some real game minutes.

Excuse? That is reality. You expect something different?
When we were full strength we were the second best team in the MAC this year. With two good players out we weren't as good. Duh.
Once players rehab, getting everybody back and in synch may take a game or two.

Based on one game, without ish and Hazen we were the second best team. Somehow in the games immediately following, with the same lineup that hammered Toledo, we became one of the worst while losing to meh teams.
Explain away the sudden drop after Toledo, before we even had a chance to get tired from lack of depth. (A purportedly good starting unit that torched Toledo was still intact. And we still had Gunn then)

Let me help you save OTP's server space and save yourself from carpal tunnel. List your excuses below in the appropriate spots. We all know you'll be making them eventually....and at excessive, tiresome length.
Next few games: "everyone needs to get back to strength" Remainder of regular season: MAC tourney: 2019-2020: Any further Whitford seasons:

That’s the question. Does our original team really become effective in MAC play or are we now exposed with conference scouting and preparation?
This stretch should give us an indication since we are playing .500 conference competition.

This stretch should give us an indication since we are playing .500 conference competition. We do this every year. Injuries or not this year was going to be no different. It just happened sooner this year. Effort and fundamentals should be a baseline. We have never had that with whit and so we see period of slop and low energy games every season, regardless of roster.

Explain away the sudden drop after Toledo, before we even had a chance to get tired from lack of depth. (A purportedly good starting unit that torched Toledo was still intact. Is the difference worth a couple of buckets? I think so. Some of these losses were last possession very close, so we weren't quite as bad as a losing streak indicated, but it's a difference going to the bench and having Ish instead of Nehls and being able to game plan to use the bench more.
The lack of depth meant playing Gunn out of position and when he wasn't effective. No choice. We knew Josh could contribute, so he stepped up. Now we have more. Huggins responded better than the naysayers would predict, and Nehls is getting more used to the MAC level competition. But, Hazen and Ish are better. To me that is clear.

That's fantastic................... It is, actually. Gunn has shown he can play, especially if he hits his first shot. But he is not consistent and can't always match up. But that's the description of a bench player.
I will not be surprised to see him become more consistent and a better player, and deserve more minutes next year. The minutes he got this stretch helped him.

I said with the NIU game that it was a turnaround special with two in a row now and depth back, I'm simply suggesting that the odds are favoring a Cards run right now....how we come out of this 3 game stretch is huge....2-1 is okay but 3-0 and 7-7 would put us in decent shape with 4 games to go...I'm still suggesting a run to the MAC Finals...
