Yet you were all for giving both Whitford and Taylor multiple extensions. We wouldn't be in this mess if we had the same elevated expectations that you dismiss as unrealistic. You assume buying out and hiring cheap would have worked.
And the "mess" we are in could be a lot worse if we had missed on that hiring decision or even just made a mediocre choice, since it would be more costly to buy out and replace than staying the course. Ummmmmmmmmmm...........................This is really too dumb to even comment on.

That's what you get for thinking, a dumb statement.

The current situation is that BSU is tied for 9th place with NIU. As you probably all know, the top 4 seeds get byes while 5 thru 8 get 1st round home games and 9 thru 12 get first round road games.
At 5-8, BSU is three games out of a top 4 spot with 5 games to go, so I think that can be ruled out as a realistic possibility. Even winning out (as unlikely as that is in itself) would by no means guarantee a top 4 spot.
A 5 to 8 spot and a home game is plausible. History shows that 7 wins is usually the dividing line for getting a home game or not. Often the 8 spot is determined by a tie-breaker among multiple teams with 7 wins. 8 wins almost always gets you a home game. So BSU needs at least 2 wins out of the last 5 to have a chance for a home game, and 3 wins if they don't want to sweat out a tie breaker. Whitford year six!! The excitement!
If the season ended today, BSU would play at either Miami, Akron or EMU. NIU and CMU are also likely first round possibilities. No doubt these teams are all shaking in their shoes at the prospect of facing BSU "on a run". And even more so, having to go up against the incredible tourney-savvy coaching of Jimmy "One Win" Whitford.

I truly don't like saying it but I see a 9-9 finish or 8-10...far worse than any of us hoped for.

Realistically, we now need to win 2 of last 3 to have any home game tournament chance (Eastern, Western, Northern IL) I’m assuming Toledo will want to kick our butts.

When I saw how badly Western was struggling, I immediately had the thought that they would beat us at least once. If they had been struggling more, I would have been even more sure they would beat us. And if they had been struggling less, I would have been less sure they would beat us. It's funny how the psychology of a sports fan works sometime.

Right now I would take WMU at home vs us as the favorite. It may be Hawk's final win as WMU coach. Also we finish at NIU it might be Montgomery's last shot at a MAC season win too. So will those coaches beat us & get an extension?
