The pre selection was pretty much set but with the way this season has flipped that is probably not the case in any longer I assume you are suggesting that, had this season gone well and Whit departed, the word was that Grunk would have inherited the throne. Yes?

Yes? I don't know who in their right mind thought Whitford was anywhere near getting a better job. He would have needed a deep tourney run to even get anyone's attention. How delusional are people at Ball State ?

I've been a BSU basketball fanatic for 40 years and season ticket holder for 30. I've been a supporter of James Whitford until now. I heard and read your criticisms of the various reasons for dislike of the coach but thought many of them were a desire to return to the Glory Days of the 90s; I, too, desire that, but I don't see that happening, whomever is the coach. I thought last year was going to be the year to bring us back to prominence, but then came Zach Hollywood's suicide, suspensions of Tyler and Walker and the demise of Kiapway. Those things had to wear on the team. I excused Whitmore for the February swoon saying unforeseen difficulties derailed our year. But this was going to be the year to get us back to the top 2 or 3 MAC teams. We started off well, even with Trey's surgery and recovery. We lost to Purdue and Virginia Tech by just 9 points each. We ranked as high as #60. We were on our way. We started the game at Toledo strong and dismantled anything the Rockets tried to d do. We dominated that game. We've gone 4-8 since then. Yes, we've had injuries and and I excused some losses due to them. But reality is setting in. We have no ball handler on the team. We have the second most turnovers in conference play. Our offense ranks 10th of 12. I see so much potential in Teague, but we don't seem to have a plan for him. There is no way he should have been permitted to chuck five threes last night. He is a career 26% from 3. He is so athletic but underutilized. How many times have we seen KJ drive into traffic and get his shot blocked or a turnover? How about our turnover/assist ratio. Our assists have diminished in conference. Or Tayler trying to do too much? Where are the fundamentals? Blocking out, attacking the press, handling a zone, free throw shooting. I have no confidence in this coach. I love our players and the effort they are putting forth. I just don't that Whitford can get us where we want to go. Time for the excuse making to stop. Send this whole thing to the AD OK....get this in an envelope and on her desk by Friday....we’ll follow up with Page 1 of the Sherman Plan on Monday so she will know how to proceed with the next steps. Our work here is done!

Being a Ball State fan across the board, minus NCAA hockey(go Golden Gophers), it is as taxing as being a White Sox fan in major league baseball in this decade. The failed free agent pursuit of Manny Machado feels like the last month and a half of BSU basketball. Consistent failing is theme between the ChiSox and BSU. Thus I can understand where you are coming from given you have been a fan longer than I have. My freshman year was 2001-02.
I think the only fan satisfied right now is our resident Whitford apologist who regularly writes essays in arguments with Sweep. I am convinced he will defend Whitford until he resigns or is fired.

They made excuses for Taylor right up to the end.

They made excuses for Taylor right up to the end. I hate to admit I was one of those Taylor apologists until the extended MAC losing streak in year 5. Then I went fully the other way.

White Sox will end up lucky they didn’t get Machado. San Diego will end up screwed because they got him.

I basically agree with Cardfan! I believe he is right on the mark! It will likely come down to next season I presume. If he finishes moderately well this season he will likely get a pass due to injuries. I don’t know for sure but I was thinking Whits contract is up next year?? Not really sure

If he finishes moderately well this season he will likely get a pass due to injuries. I don’t know for sure but I was thinking Whits contract is up next year?? Not really sure Translation: The BSU administration has absolutely no f------ idea how to run a winning program and the "injuries" excuse will give the all the ass-covering they need to do nothing and avoid the uneasy position of having to make decisions and take responsibilities. Luckily for them, they have the "supportive" fans around, with their endless tolerance for failure and mediocrity, to give them cover. Our two decade parade of dumb ass, incompetent administrators could never have wrecked the program so thoroughly without the "supportive" fans to help and make excuses every step of the way.

"If he finishes moderately well this season...," Come on, that boat sailed weeks ago. We are stuck with this guy for at least a year. Injuries are an excuse for his pathetic recruiting and I am sick already about that being brought up. This guy has had 6 years to build a winning program and by all metrics has failed. And as for Grunk? He hitched himself to Whitford. Don't see what he has brought to the table to be the next head coach. Winning programs go within not mediocre programs like this, at least I hope. The Sherman Plan sounds good to me.
