Keno Davis is giving a clinic on working the refs. He sure did, but I thought he mostly had a right to be pissed. We got a lot of calls to go our way today.

Teague, Moses, and Persons all with 5 turnovers............... A really important thing to remember about these numbers is that our stats people (and most in the MAC) don't track turnovers or assists very well. Tayler probably had more like 8 turnovers, and that's typical of most games. In addition, some other guys got the turnover because of his bad passes, especially on out of bounds plays.

I've noticed this season, unlike last season, no player seems to step up, especially in close games. Last year Persons was the man to get big shots; he's not really done that this year, except for a free throw in the NIU win. In the Miami game, a guy off the bench who calls himself Precious, came to the aid of the Redhawks when they lost a starter. Today's game saw the 6'5" get nearly 20 boards. Even with all the turnovers, a few extra rebounds or a couple of made shots would likely have resulted in a different outcome. But no Cardinal stepped up.
There is no leadership when things go south.
Go Cards!

I was getting ready to eat some crow after the first half and thought I would have to come home and type about how getting everyone back did help. Then the second half and just a poor lack of fundementals happened again. We did block out, We turned it over time and time again. It was just bad basketball. We actually might have the atheletes to be as good as we thought we were but we do not have the staff to teach them or put them into the right situations. Do not get me wrong we do not have anyone who can really shoot and the roster is a mess but when we do the basic things right we can win games. We just rarely do it and I blame the coaches for allowing it to happen.. Its sad and pathetic

The first half and the first couple minutes in the second half. Halftime stats: 2-9 from three, 7 turnovers, gave up 10 offensive rebounds........................I wouldn't be bragging about that. We put up 34 first half points against a team ranked 294th in points allowed. I did not say we played great, nor even good. We only had 7 turnovers, shot about 49% and C MI only went to the line a few times. That all changed in the second half. That was the difference

Now that we've got our key reserves back, I like the way this team is gelling. With a little more conditioning, Hazen and Ish should soon be able to give us a combined 30 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists off the bench (even more when Gunn is back) to ... you know, make up for when our starters have an occasional off day. I'm also really liking what Nehls and Huggins are bringing to the game. I'll admit I was skeptical earlier, but the coaching staff has really upped its game to get these two contributing at a high level for an end-of-season run.
We are on the cusp of greatness.

Ok. We now know Walton cant't shoot farther than 8-10 feet from the basket. So what did he work on during his redshirt year?

With our bench now healthy I wouldn't expect to see much of Neihls. In his brief appearance today he passed up an open 3 from the corner--his spot. Other than that he wasn't noticeable on the court. And I still want to see Huggins a few minutes a game. I would think if he had minutes their 6'5" player wouldn't have had 10 offensive rebounds.

Statistical Update:
3 Pt. FG%
Pre-conference, 13 games, 101/263, 38.4%. 5 home games Conference, 14 games, 74/256, 28.9%. 7 home games
what happened?
if we would have hit at same rate, that would be an extra 72 points or 5 pts/game

Ok. We now know Walton cant't shoot farther than 8-10 feet from the basket. So what did he work on during his redshirt year? Well we knew he could not shoot when he got here thats why we got him. We were told his shooting had improved I wonder how bad it was if it has really improved. The problem with Walton is since no one else can shoot the damn ball everyone is just clogging up the lane making Walton useless except on the break. The problem with the break we are so Helter skelter when running it we turn the damn ball over. Its a vicious cycle

Would of, could of, should of... i’m Tired of driving three hours for this type of basketball. Lose a fourteen point lead in the second half and lose by eight - you got to be kidding. I’ll watch games on tv, that’s all. Ish played well, Hazen as well. Where were the starters? I did get a free t-shirt.
