Not talking about Rob's workout pants, although they qualify. Whitford said last night on the post-game that we are playing too tight and that he has been micromanaging the offense so he has told the team to loosen up, relax and have some fun again. Said we are tentative, not playing instinctively, etc. I'm paraphrasing a bit but that seemed to be the gist. Just pushing too hard and squeezing too hard, especially the starters. I don't necessarily disagree but if there's one area we don't need to be looser at it's taking care of the ball. I can't remember a team in recent memory, (at least one that has some talent) that is so reckless and careless with the basketball. 21 turnovers again last night is just putting too much pressure on your defense to get stops. Same with giving up 27 offensive rebounds the past two games. That is just a killer and too much to overcome. Was on the MAC website before the game yesterday and they have a couple of interesting team highs and lows. One telling list is the top 25 games with the most turnovers. Not surprisingly, our Cards had the dubious honor of leading the pack with 7 games on the list. You can now make that 8 after last night. Western, Northern & Ohio (the other three sisters of the poor) were next with 4 each. So, we now have twice as many games with 18 or more turnovers as the next closest team in the MAC. Or to put it another way, we have a third of the top 25 worst turnover games out of the entire league! Too loose is worse than too tight...just sayin. Except for you Rob.

What so he was micromanaging when Walton was firing-up off balance threes ? We have been a national leader in turnovers all season. This is all just a bunch of bullshit from a coach who is completely lost.

Yeah Rob is too much information in his work out pants.
I hear a coach throwing crap at the wall to see what sticks. Evidently it was hard to prepare for Toledo? They surprised us? Just like CMU did? And Miami when they lost a starter? So I also hear a coach who has no clue how to prepare a basketball team and is unable to make in game adjustments.
The turnovers are ridiculous.

You are just a process non-truster , sir! You also clearly don't understand the importance of playing the right way versus simply winning. Winning isn't everything you know. (said Rusty)

Winning isn’t anything! And I don’t even know what process to not trust anymore. The Tight, or the UnTight?

Never trust the UnTight.
You never know what's rattled around in there.

This is a great post! If we’ve been playing “tight” as of late then I call that the most lame excuse of the year so far. My description of our team’s style of play is “apathetic”. We just look so checked out for too many portions of games, which leads to us getting in big deficits. I’d be interested to hear what everyone here considers a big deficit? We have lost a lot of conference games by less than 10 points this year. For our team I would consider being down 6-8 points late in the game (less than 4 minutes to go) as being a big deficit for us to overcome.

Have any of y'all ever been in a zone? Any sport. If you have, you would know the body has to be relaxed and the mind needs to be focused, but not overthinking. Unfortunately it's very difficult and and not often the stars align so you are in a zone.
Been there in a few tennis matches, maybe one handful. The ball seemed large and the seams were noticeable. The game seemed to be in a much slower motion, just like auto wrecks in the movies. From these very few times in a zone, I did learn to loosen up when shots were off. Learned how to relax by using different techniques. Applies to other things than playing a sport.
Go Cards!
