Well, I missed this projection big time this season unless a miracle would occur and we would make a run to the MAC Final.
I do not see that happening particularly after last night....I held out a glimmer of hope still until we witnessed yet another lackluster performance last night on Senior night nonetheless. Persons seemed like he was simply going through the motions....can't blame him....he's basically carried this team for 3 seasons....Moses hasn't had much punch as a Senior{he's simply to nice a kid}...I thought he played better as a Junior. Teague has not been utilized to his maximum potential....Coaching here for sure. Mallers has lost all confidence in his shot....definitely played better as a Junior offensively. He is hesitant to pull the trigger. I personally think KJ has helped particularly defensively. If he would work on his 18 foot jumper the kid would have real game....not sure if he wants it bad enough though. As role players I think its fair to say that Hazen, and Ish have showed coming back from injury that they can contribute at least off the bench. Nehls has been non existent. Thompson has been adequate as a back up....used late last night as much as Persons.
Its likely a combination of a lot of issues....Coaching, injuries, lack of improvement in the off season, recruiting a dominant big man, strength, lack of full out passion and effort....I don't see any fight in this BSU dog anymore...no fighting for loose balls, hustle, rebounding effort, slow to close out on 3's, etc!
Whether you agree with me or not, the point is that this team with or without a big time beast had enough talent to perform better this season...to many excuses...not enough performance!!! To this point they must decide if they will lay down at EMU and even if they get by EMU by chance will they simply go to Cleveland for one night in the hotel and a quick return trip to Muncie which is likely the case.
I'm out.

Problem is, many of us have been saying those things for 3 or 4 years now. It hasn’t changed.

What I really don't understand is while maybe we are not the best team re turnovers and 3 point shooting percentage is how we have digressed...I mean we shot reasonably well early against pretty good competition like VT, Purdue, Toledo, etc.
We have gotten worse in these areas....I mean damn.

That's what happens when you recruit guys who are undersized and can't shoot. Some of us have been pointing this out for three years. Welcome to reality, and next season is going to be far worse.

"Welcome to reality, and next season is going to be far worse."
That should have been Whitford's entire statement during the post-game press conference.

I understand your point re Coaching but I like some of the kids we have coming in next year...I like the two HS guards and I like the big kid out of Canada...I think some people here could be wrong on this kid....he is not a project.
And, Acree, the transfer from Maryland Eastern Shore are long and can play....added with the new kids we have some decent talent...question in my mind is can we make them better and motivate them?

None of those guys can shoot, except maybe Bumbalough, it's just more of the same. Shitbird threw everything into this season thinking he would get out of Muncie and it blew up in his face.

kid, After a good coach plays you once many can see how you beat them and ''out'' X and O you in the next contest. I think maybe some of the other coaches just out coached us this season.

Thats true our half court offense is a joke.. We only score in transistion the move to playing rec ball does not work

That's a pretty fair summary, Kid. And I think you are right that there are some good pieces on the roster. But they don't fit together too well and there are too many holes.
I'm convinced the main underlying problem is low-energy recruiting. I think it's good, as a mid-major, to open up to transfers...you can get some real windfalls of talent that way. (See Majerus, Rick). But you also have to make sure you fill certain key roles, and to do that you can't rely solely on windfalls. You have to go out and doggedly pursue those key kids you really need. Problem is, a lot of other schools are going to want those same kids (e.g. rugged, talented big kids and quality point guards), so you have to spend endless hours following them all around, stroking their egos and "showing them love". It's a frustrating and somewhat silly thing for a man's career success to ride on, but that's the way it is for a college basketball coach. Deal with it....or fail. I have the impression Whitford has chosen not to deal with it, and....is failing.

Whit's teams get worse as the season progresses. What does he do that causes it? I suspect the players shooting gets worse as they get tired. Also suspect they both tune out the coach & look for a quick way out. (ie Shoot fast & forget about the offense being run.)Whit just looks lost so much of the time. Why doesn't he try something different force the other team to react. I would like to see us come out in a zone against EMU & start of the 2nd half play a full court press for 5 minutes just to screw with EMU's coach's head.Give them something to adjust too.

Not trying to pick on you, but how on this earth could you possibly know enough to "like" the kid from Canada? The lack of info is plenty of reason to have concern.

The only “box scores” I’ve seen for the Canadian kid’s team rarely mention him. When he does get included it’s usually like 10 points. He’s not gonna step in ready to play.
