If only we had been smart enough to pay Whitford more, as you advocated. We will quite possibly wish he had, as the budget is cut in the coming years. Unless of course BSU fans are willing to put their money where their mouth is in terms of wanting this being a top program. You need to quit making excuses for this inept hire and reasons for the extension. I really do appreciate a good debate but this is not debatable. Our administration has a track record of making horrible hires and knee jerk extensions and next to Thompson being hired, this is the worst. Whitford's teams have shown over the course of 6 years of being weak physically and mentally, we never show signs of improvement individually or within the team and we make the same damn mistakes every freaking year. This is the definition of poor coaching. Throw the damn record out and the lack of improvement from year to year should get you fired. And no, the two 20 wins seasons were a charade which most pointed out. This year was not an aberration but a continuation of piss poor coaching. BSU"s athletic department has become a joke and money has nothing to do with it!

Absolute refusal to admit to a mistake indicates a case where ego greatly exceeds intelligence. I tried, but you're impossible to parody....you'll pursue a failed argument beyond any limit.

My comment has always and consistently been "IF" you extend or hire, you build the salary line so you hire the NEXT coach more easily.
Has nothing to do with hiring Whit. Except I am glad we didn't completely low-ball the hire.
This is about University budgeting and hiring. VERY hard to find more money for the next hire when you need it unless it is built in the line.
VERY hard to upgrade. True here for everything except administrative pay off course...

We have no problem creating Vice President of trendy social issues positions and paying 6 figures. But try asking for more money for the athletic department or other departments on campus.

Blah......Blah......Blah..........Please, State Universities are always going to poor mouth the public, it's what they do. Compared to other places that have built successful programs like Butler, Valpo and Northern Kentucky, BSU is flat out wealthy. We are financially strapped and could barely afford to build a basketball only practice facility.... Whah...Whah...Whah. If BSU has enough money to carry your stupid ass, pardon if I don't lose sleep.

What basketball only practice facility do we have that was built with state funds?

What basketball only practice facility do we have that was built with state funds? Where did I say it was ? The point is there is plenty of money to build a successful program at Ball State, the only thing lacking is the will and leadership to do so. We built a dedicated practice facility concurrent with Notre Dame and Butler still doesn't have one, yet we have to read 00's moronic commentary about how poor little Ball State can't win because we can't afford a quality program. It's just a bunch of bullshit.................

I guess I’m not tracking then because the practice facility was built with private donations, otherwise we don’t have one.

So you think that was easy? Can be repeated as we "want" it?
AD and powers have to set priorities. Right now that is FB indoor facility for example.
Much easier to get brick and mortar funding. This one was named after a VB coach too, not single purpose as getting $$$ for salary on continuing basis.
Your theory that BSU is well funded is ridiculous.

So you think that was easy? No, I am sure it wasn't easy. Hey idiot, I said BSU is well funded compared to other Universities who have flown right by us. Try a little harder at getting peoples actual viewpoints correct.

An indoor practice facility? For a team that plays its game outdoors. Maybe we should build an outdoor basketball facility! Show me a kid who can shoot in the wind and I will show you a kid who can shoot!

If I had to choose between having both a mediocre football and a basketball program and drop the terribly expensive football program and the money for an outstanding basketball program I'd drop football every day of the week. I realize wed have to change confidences and that's ok too. Maybe we should have a poll?
