I couldn't find the particular thread, I believe the General stated a few days ago that he would soon be envious of 2 different groups of teams:
1. Those getting rid of their mediocre coaches
2. Those going dancing
I would have initially thought OU would be a team to envy once they fired Phillips, but the hiring of Boals doesn't seem to have impressed the General, so maybe not Ohio ...
How about Bradley? Ranked below the Cards in most rankings and a team that took a whoopin' just 3 years ago in Worthen, the Braves punched their ticket this year by winning the MVC. Coach Brian Wardle is in year 4. After 2 years of 5-27 and 13-20 records, the Braves have been 20-13 and 20-14 the past 2 seasons. For the past 2 years they've been ranked a little below or above the Cards in most rankings. But, they've been tournament ready at the end of the season, winning the conference tourney this year and losing to Loyola Chicago in it last year (and we remember what Loyola Chicago did, right?). Wardle basically did start from scratch and now has a team that is a mix of kids who've been with him from the start, a key JUCO and some younger recruits.
Should we be envious of Bradley?
What other teams?

I'm envious of any school that doesn't treat its athletic programs like shit.

I would vote NKU, our first season of Jimmy Two Times was their second season in Division 1, in the last three years they have two NCAA's and an NIT.

How ironic that our current university president and our now graduated guard came to us from said NKU.

And our president and point guard came here for our greener pastures... (Originally posted about the same time as RC) In fairness, Pres. Mearns seems to be the real deal and Tayler was the team's heart and soul. Things didn't work out the way any of us hoped.

How about Longwood? They made one of the Alphabet tourneys this year (College Basketball Invitational). They might play the Chips in the second round.

Longwood is getting a visit from....wait for it....Southern Miss. I do declare!
And if Longwood thrusts their way to the finals, there could be an epic showdown with....Grand Canyon.
Is the CBI being broadcast on a porn website, or what?

Would the hot-shooting Longwood be able to fill it up if they face Grand Canyon? The ultimate challenge for the Lancers! Or will they be upset and topped the first night by Southern Miss?
If you know anything about what websites get the most traffic, you see that the CBI is feeling their way towards a dynamite marketing strategy here. They could eventually surpass the NCAA tourney. Ball State is well-positioned to be a perennial invitee...along with Oral Roberts and Morehead of course.

Can't wait until Wednesday night. I just don't think Southern Miss can handle Longwood's inside length. Although Southern Miss does have a couple of assets that Longwood lacks.
By the way, I think the Longwood people knew EXACTLY what they were doing when they chose the name "Lancers", and chose the horse as their mascot.
I also think that once the CBI gets this marketing plan fully settled, and gets all the right teams, everyone's focus every year will change from filling out their NCAA bracket to making the best juvenile puns on the CBI school names. (Of course the line between "best" and "worst" gets very blurry where juvenile puns are concerned.)
Getting in with the CBI's plan could be BSU's ticket out of nowheresville. BSU has a huge institutional advantage here over boringly named schools like Duke, Kentucky and Kansas, etc.

Not only that I think the horses name is "Bragger".
