Will academic standards be relaxed for recruiting? Nope, the standards will be the same as every other student, just like Georgetown has always done.

Has everyone seen the new graduate transfer rule the NCAA is voting on later this month? www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/ncaa-considering-rule-that-could-curtail-the-growing-number-of-graduate-transfers/It would require the university accepting the graduate transfer to provide a scholarship for the length of time needed to finish the graduate program, normally 2 years and this scholarship would count against the total number of athletic scholarships available; in the case of basketball 13. Under the new rule (if passed ) a guy like Nehls would still be on our roster as one of our 13 scholarships next season even though his eligibility to play is gone. Can you imagine what this would do to Whitford's roster management problems? Obviously this will greatly reduce grad transfers.

If you’re in a one year degree program that rule would be ok, but if a kid is in a two year masters program that screws the school.

My question is what about a redshirt who doesn't transfer but plays a fifth season. Theoretically they would be in the same situation regarding graduate work.

thats a weird one but it might help us keep kids especially in football as schools will be reluctant to eat a scholarship

It's easy to see news reporting on this, but I don't see the proposed rule anywhere right away. You can skim through your own copy of the current rules with a free download here (War and Piece size)
The whole graduate transfer thing may be an exception the the sit our rule for transfers. So it may not apply to a non-transfer.
Good question. And what about a guy like Sellers who finishes in 3, wants to use scholarship for grad school?

Rumor is UCLA might be interested in Matt Painter.................. If they are he should seriously listen. He’d get paid. Only problem there is the fan base and alumni aren’t real patient and sweet 16’s aren’t good enough. But hell Purdue fans haven’t been great to painter.

Yep you need a tourney win every year and you need a final four every several years. He is making about $3 million per at Purdue so I am not sure UCLA could give him much of a bump.

Westwood is a pretty nice place to live...if you have money. And he would have money if he went there. If you've never been there, it is...shall we say...somewhat nicer than Lafayette.

Dream on guys UCLA won't follow Alford with another coach from Indiana. Whoever they hire won't last 5 yrs it is a coaching graveyard.

New rumor is UCLA has interviewed both Rick Barnes and Lon Krueger in the past twelve hours. I don't think Painter is really interested and I don't think UCLA has the donor commitments to pay him enough anyway.
