We get one of these pretty much every year don't we? Goetze explains that, whatever we might think and whatever lip service she might pay to our frustrations, it is, in fact, acceptable to her to finish 11th and to win MAC tourney games at the rate of one every three years, and so she's going to accept it. She can, after all, pin the blame on her predecessor and coast for another...what....three years? Otherwise, she'd have to get creative and stir up a lot of bother, and who needs that? Her primary obfuscation tactic is to pretend that everything was just great only 4 months ago, and that the long term issue of Whitford taking this program exactly nowhere in 6 full years just doesn't exist. Then she just hammers together some of the usual "we've got to do better" boilerplate...and I can't tell you just how sick I am of hearing this same shit for two decades. link

That's a funny article, she isn't very complimentary and makes his contract a central issue. She sort of publicly puts him on notice. Good for her, well done.

Obviously her annual incentive package is not based on football and basketball revenue increases.
In fairness, her hands are tied and her wagon is hitched to this dumpster 🔥 for at LEAST one more year.
I like the article pointing out the 4 returning starters and 2 SEC transfers and the resulting 6-12 MAC record.

She does mentioned increased staffing support for strength and conditioning. Maybe she has been reading this message board about the lack there of?

We knew something like this was coming at this point there is really nothing else that can be done. I did not really expect it to come out the way it did though. She was pretty aggressive with her comments

Since our athletic administrator might possibly be using BSUfans as a reference and evaluation tool, let me slice the statistics to remove the eye-candy glitter of those “20 Win” seasons. Since we can’t blame our coach for the abysmal 2-16 conference records (due to the dreadful state of the program he inherited), let’s cut his 6 year tenure right down the middle. For a fair comparison, we use the MAC opponents as our yardstick because this eliminates the possibility of a cupcake scheduling snafu and utilizes like-minded opponents in an equal home/away/neutral environment. That leaves a three year record of 29-30 with a full complement of Whitford recruits playing a Whitford system against opponents whom we have six years of scouting data from which to prepare. Obviously we can’t draw any significant conclusions from this information because there’s always next year and next year will be the year where they finally find the hidden treasure on Oak Island.

I agree with most of what has been posted; to me the statements from Goetz come off as administrative crap trying to point out that it is what it is, or something. That withstanding, I give credit to O'Gara at TSP for at least trying to get answers.

Honestly I’m not sure what Goetz could do yet given the length of time still left on Whits contract. And she couldn’t come out and destroy him while keeping him. No AD would cut a guys throat and not fire him/her. All that would do is kill recruiting and fan interest another couple years. And concern future potential coaches about the situation.
I’m tired of the bottom dropping out of whitfords soft program every year too but the reality is Sandy left Goetz in a difficult situation. Neu will be easier to remove.

What was the "dreadful state" of our program that he inherited? He inherited a .500 program with some good talent and ran the ship aground is what I recall. This is bullshit.

Whit successfully took a .500 program and, with the team mostly intact, took it to the abyss.

Whit successfully took a .500 program and, with the team mostly intact, took it to the abyss. I was hoping that was sarcasm. There are some who think Whitford took over a hopeless situation. Billy Taylor took over the worse situation and at least stabilized it. Now we’ll see if Whitford gets to put a spin on things.
