I just want to know now before the 2020 season are we extending Whit if we win the west? I will say it is possible we do that. He would at minimum have to win the MAC regular season and an NCAA Tourney game to get another extension.

If anyone mentions Whitford and extension in the same post other than he should never get another one, you are my sworn enemy.

I don’t know how good the Hendricks kid will be but I do not think he’ll Redshirt.
My point was Sweep is sometimes void of facts! He doesn’t mention the kid as part of his post. But it’s okay the world is full of fake news

But it’s okay the world is full of fake news Whitford red-shirted Teague. Why wouldn't he red-shirt an under weight post player in Hendriks? I think it will be a three person rotation for two front court spots between Teague, Hazen, and Thomas. The SF or wing will be one of Mallers, Gunn, or Acree. I honestly don't see much court time for Huggins, but he may play occasionally if Whitford tries to play with a "traditional" center. And then there are the times Whitford will play with 3 guards, which will be quite often. I just don't see where Hendriks plays much so he would be best served putting on weight and muscle during a red-shirt year as Teague was. Now if Teague leaves it's a different story.

You may be right. Although not as thin as Teague. And taller. Presumably less skilled, but we know very little.
Huggins may play some. He should be stronger, and he can rebound. Hard to say how much the freshmen can do.
Surely we will have to take advantage of athletes Thomas and Acree, Coleman and play faster. I am not optimistic about our half court offense unless we get some outside shooting going.

I don’t know how good the Hendricks kid will be but I do not think he’ll Redshirt. No opinion now. Hope he's around this summer and we get to see him work out. Would like also to see what Kroft can do, won't know a lot about any freshman until we see him against college players.

Surely we will have to take advantage of athletes Thomas and Acree, Coleman and play faster. You do know Coleman guarded the post in High School because he was too slow to guard anyone else. Coleman is basically a smaller version of Zach Gunn but an even worse shooter. This time last season you were telling us all how the coaches were high on Huggins and how good he looked in practice. You fall for it every year.

If Coleman were good enough he’d have played during our “lack of depth” period. So either he’s not very good or we didn’t really lack depth.

I think they did make a close call not to to it, but I am not buying your argument that we didn't have a problem or the part that he wasn't very good and that was the deciding factor.
We needed an outside shooter at guard to replace Ish and I think they decided to play Nehls. All things equal Coleman would have been better overall, but is not a great outside shooter, so do you give up a year for that mixed improvement, not exactly what you need.
They considered using him as depth at forward when Hazen was out and Gunn was inconsistent. But again, not a perfect substitution.
With 20-20 hindsight he might have made a difference and produced some more wins. They certainly could have won those games without him.
NEXT year I see us playing faster pace and using 3G more. I'd rather have him then and in a 5th year where he can be an experienced and maybe very good player.

So you’re saying he doesn’t have a position....

Gunn rebounds and has been a little stronger than I expected on inside defense, but has not been a good defensive player, and has not yet shown much if anything inside on offense, strictly an outside threat. Hope he can improve.
Coleman is a completely different player.
Unlike Gunn, Coleman can handle the ball, pass, shoot mid range, and when he guarded the post it was in large part because Cathedral did not have size. I saw him several times in HS and he played well. In AAU, and in HS, he frequently guarded the best opposing player and he was not limited on offense as much as Gunn who could score inside in HS because he was big enough, but even then preferred to play perimeter too much.
Coleman needs to improve shooting to play a lot but will provide solid all around play.
I have been accurate in reporting our red shirt players progress and never been overboard on what we could expect.
I characterized Huggins last year as having exactly the skill set and ability he has. The coaches said he would eventually contribute which I believe he will and neither the coaches or I ever predicted a big role for him during his first season on the active roster. He rebounds and defends but did not fit with the high post role we used with Trey and needs to play close to the basket. We were trying to free space for Taj, Kj and others, so he was not going to play a lot except as a low post, where both Teague and Trey were still better.
I believed then and now that Huggins can contribute, and if he gets stronger and has learned from 2 years playing in practice, and now also in games, he will play more than naysayers predict. Had some good moments this year, but we needed more offense than he offered.

00mhm, I agree with your assessment on Gunn. He improved his interior game some this year. As the season progressed he occasionally drove to the basketball and improved his defense. He has a quick release and deep range on the 3 ball. I also agree with your assessment on Huggins. He was an active low post player and I believe was done an injustice by not playing a few minutes each game. For me the jury is still out on him. Ish impressed me this year with his improved shooting and his drive to the bucket and was somewhat better on defense. I also liked what I saw ok f Hazen and his athletic ability. He had some amazing drives for dunks. In early games he looked like a superb 3 point shooter but late in the season passed up the outside shot even when open. I wondered why that was.

A guy hanging by a thread isn’t going to be thinking long term. Decisions will be made on protecting your own future.
You guys are pontificating on what might be good decisions, going forward. You can scrap all that.

The fact Ish is now being utilized as a two guard should tell you how awful Whitford is at talent evaluation. Ish was recruited to handle the point and now gets playing time because he is still a better shooter than the washouts we have at two guard and small forward.
