Nate Owens, is that a Freudian Slip in that Nate Oats ran off to Alabama as fast as Jesse Owens used to run? The MAC just go a whole lot easier. Just wish Whitford would take note of the desired career path vs what the hell he is doing currently at BSU.

It'll be interesting to see who they hire.

Not surprised, but not sure I’d have picked Alabama over some of the other openings coming available. Must have offered him $$$

It's not an easy job. Football is king in Tuscaloosa and Sabin runs the show. Women's gymnastics and softball are probably second and third in fan support at Alabama. I am surprised they didn't go after Rick Patino; his name was mentioned. The buyout of Johnson cost the Tide 8 million. I did not think they would select a coach from a mid major league after the Anthony Grant experience.
I wish Coach Oates well.
Go Cards!

This is his high water mark. Bama Basketball will send him the same direction as some folks found at Michigan Football.

Not sure if Sampson will move from UH.Sampson is rumored as a potential hire at Arkansas per HoopDirt.com: "Early hot name at Arkansas is obviously Kelvin Sampson. Arkansas AD Hunter Yurachek hired Sampson at Houston, so the connection is obvious. Keep and eye on Tulsa’s Frank Haith here as well. Really, really early though…"

So much for the big extension. Pocket change for the big boys, I guess.

Buffalo gets more back from Oates with the extension. They knew they’d lose him anyway.

Buffalo gets more back from Oates with the extension. They knew they’d lose him anyway. A good strategy if you are betting a coach will be successful. Just his new base salary on the books means they are in the market for good coaches to replace him. Let's see if their administration can make that commitment. We did not when we lost Majerus/Humsaker who took us to the top of the MAC.
Ray was a lucky gambel, but eventually they paid hm too little even when they won the gamble and he kept us there. Unlike what UB did with Oates who could recruit, they did not give him a big bump. He left when a penny pinching unwise administration thought anybody could win at BSU because...well just because we are BSU. They hired a low budget replacement after that choice, doubling down on that theory. Every decision since then. A lot of people seem to think that way will work.

Ummmmmmm...................You would have to convince a lot of college basketball people Ray was good head coach.
