I was talking to a friend of mine who is a University of Nebraska alum and Husker basketball and football zelot!
Can someone on this board refresh my memory or straighten me out:
Was there a fellow from Muncie Central that I recall BSU tried to recruit as a point guard who went to Nebraska and played?
If so was he not tragically killed in a private plane crash?
Sorry if I am all wrong about this connection - age is getting the best of my memories.

Yes it was Jack Moore. Muncie legend. Yes Jack Moore thank you! Do you have any clue on the time frame or the accident detail?

It was very sad. I still have some memories of the night it happened.

It was very sad. I still have some memories of the night it happened. Totally understandable as the guy was obviously a very special player and a solid person!

Jack Moore leads the Bearcats to a state title in 78, and then heads off for Nebraska, so I figure Central won't be anywhere as good the next year.
But they had Harrell coaching and along comes a guy named Ray McCallum to lead them to another state title the following year, over fellow NCC member Anderson no less. I think that was an Anderson team that included Pat Skaggs, who just recently resigned as the Logansport coach, and Shawn Teague, father of Jeff and Marquis Teague.
I guess that was the "good ol' days" for high school basketball in East Central Indiana.

I guess that was the "good ol' days" for high school basketball in East Central Indiana. Graduating Moore and Shoecraft was significant, especially Jack. He should have been Mr. Basketball. The returnees in 79 were very good...Troy Bridges, Jon Carmichael and Steve Avila not to mention Rick Rowray and that unheralded McCallum kid. Fun fact, Ray literally didn't play as a junior. Made the sectional roster but didn't play other than a few mop up minutes. It's one of the reasons BSU got him because he came out of nowhere as senior. Most self-motivated, hardest worker I've seen.

Brian Carr, a Burris grad, also had a great career at Nebraska.
