I went to BSU from 1992 to 1996 and the Fan support at Games was tremendous!
-Lived in Fort Myers for (8) years and attended a lot of FGCU basketball games. They are in the Atlantic Sun Conference and they put more fans in the seats every game with a smaller arena (5,500) than BSU. (Support Your Team!)
-Went to (3) games this previous year and the fan support wasn't even 4,000 fans in attendance. That is crazy!
-You want the team to get better, then maybe the local fans and students should get out more to support the Team.

I'm just curious, why June 13 for this post?
Has this thought been boiling up inside you for months and you couldn't contain it anymore?
Are you bored in the off-season and trying to spark a conversation?
Did you recently come out of a coma?

Ball State doesn't even deserve the attendance it gets now, let alone an increase. The remaining fanbase, which gets older every year, only comes out of habit and lack of anything better to do.
The BSU administration has buried the program under a huge stinking, steaming pile of incompetence, disinterest and agendas having nothing to do with providing a quality, competitive product. BSU has abused it's fanbase with 20 years of mismanaged failure. If you want to see the untapped potential market for a good basketball program in east central Indiana, you should have gone to the HS sectional in New Castle, where the vast gym was quite literally packed to the rafters with excited, appreciative fans.
Florida Gulf Coast, on the other hand, has been to the tourney in 2013, 2014 and 2017, and hasn't had a losing year since 2011. Get the picture?

Because it is Ball State I will be a fan. At some level that is what fan means.
Well, barring another Ronnie Thompson who insults everybody in sight.
I agree with mismanagement and neglect and failure as big reasons for decline, but it's more complicated. Not just losing dominant position in the MAC. Also demographic change, and big changes in media for sports fans, and student apathy due to so many more entertainment choices.

-You want the team to get better, then maybe the local fans and students should get out more to support the Team. Yeah, that's the way it works, consumers rallying around a bad product usually leads to timely change and compulsory improvement. Are you seven years old ?

halftime has a point here.
It is a tough sell and a weaker product in a weaker market than in those glory days.
Investing in product improvement is still important, but we'll never likely match the ticket sales we had.
Better product would help there, but the revenue increase has to come from new and different streams of revenue.

At the known risk of offending quite a few people, I’d like to fully understand what makes people continue to donate large sums of money to the athletic department.
Don’t they watch television and see other schools? Don’t they stand back at the end of each season and look at the conference standings? Don’t they see at the dismal attendance at each athletic event?

Not much chance it gets better unless we invest.
Oh, we could suddenly find genius administrators, who are better than everyone else, and very lucky...
I don't like those odds.

Is it going to get better if we stop or is if going to slide even further? Is it going to get better if you continue or is it going to slide even further?
At some point you have to cut your losses and shut it down.... Unless you've got someone to mulct.

Never ever ever going to see the old attendance numbers.. Just too many other ways to consume the game. We can add a couple thousand more per by having good winning teams though.

Is it going to get better if we stop or is if going to slide even further? At some point you have to cut your losses and shut it down.... Unless you've got someone to mulct. That could apply to all intercollegiate sports. Especially at budget strapped mid majors. Which goes first? Probably if there is any rational decision in order of net value to the University. So, you look at expense and revenue, include some plus for alumni relations, for advertising, throw in something for good will. (Can a school NOT have sports at all?) BB is probably safe for the foreseeable future. It's not about success on the field of play or budget alone or FB would be long gone.
