Answering the question, I'd prefer 4 wins if it includes Miami. I am not going to let IU be important enough make an IU game define our season. I don't want to care about them that much. OK, beat NIU too, and get 5 wins then.
I know the emphasis on actually winning games, but if this team came out ready to play, actually improved over the year, it sure would be refreshing. Win or lose.
Might win me over without a winning season. Close strong, look like we have future, that may be the most we could expect, indicate Neu was finding his way.

Let me ask you guys would you rather beat IU and go 1-11 or lose to IU and go 4-8 Beat IU. 4-8 doesn’t do us any good anyways.

I think I am with the 1-11 guys on this one.. As far as the future goes does five wins warrant a one year extension? No matter what you answer the answer is no but with our finances it very well could happen. 6 wins and we can argue over if its deserved or not

No matter what you answer the answer is no but with our finances it very well could happen. 6 wins and we can argue over if its deserved or not Guessing whether Neu is finally getting it, and also whether we will somehow hire a coach that is really a lot better are the two other issues.
It's not so much a "reward" that he deserves for a great job. Everybody agrees results are disappointing. Not like we have a lot of exciting options. It's more a question of whether he finally has it together, and what are the odds of success in the relatively near future.
Hiring another bargain basement coach who has to build another new staff, find new players to fit, all for yet another rebuild while the Program is in the tank for more years is not exactly exciting.

I’m tellin’ you, give him 5 more years at a reduced salary and see what happens. He’s a nice guy and he tries hard.
We ain’t going to be a conference champion or a national power, no matter who sits in the chair.
Maybe we get to go to the Chilly Beany Bowl every 3 years or so.....that is what we would consider a success.

We need to win six and a bowl game. If not, it’s time for a change! It’s getting old, or is it just me (BSU’75)?

We need it. We want it.
Does not mean any coach can do it this year.
Question is who has best chance to do it. When and how can it be done?
That is not answered by whether this coach does it this year.

I remember what you all said about ND. Ya gotta have faith. Lucas Oil was a good place to play in Lembo's first year and will continue on in that tradition this year. IU remains one of the worst if not the worst football school in D-1 history and will remain there.

I’d probably take 4 wins over 1 win over IU. That one win would be sweet, especially to quiet certain IU fans including one who frequents this message board, but it would be dreadful to lose the final 11. Winning game one would boost our hopes for the season making the subsequent losses only more painful. If we had never beaten IU before it would be different, but is it all that special if we lose 11 games? 4 wins, especially if they are conference games, would be a more successful season, albeit not too exciting. 1 win this year would be a gigantic step backward.

I dislike IU more than I can say, however they are a long way from the worst football team in D-1 history. They are a Big10 team that sends 5X on football what we do. We have had some success against - three wins, could have been four. However, we have to play our “A” game to win and the have to play their “C” game. It really is something for us to beat them. Go Cards!

Go Cards! Exactly. And the last few years they’ve been recruiting at a level way above ours. Their offense will be very powerful. We know what our defense is like. Much as I’d love to beat the team from that school it’s just not going to happen. The years we beat them they had MAC level talent. That’s not the case anymore. They are big, fast and athletic. I’m not even sure we have MAC level talent at this point. We have to hope we keep this game competitive.

Nailed cardfan. Wonder what the ROI is for scheduling IU?
