Those are all valid points and many are still true today. He did get some very good recruits Jahwan,Patterson, I believe both Neal and Gilbert may have been part of his last class. Problem was there were way to many fcs level kids filling the holes. The amount of attrition from his classes was also very bad. There were lots of rumors of in staff fighting along with alot of player dissention the final year or so. When he left players came out of the woodwork and really chastised him. The part that always sticks with me was his timing and they way he left. Like someone else said I think his tenure would best be described as a mixed bag. The highs were high but when the bottom fell out the crash was brutal

Offensive line is where you control the game of football. Pete benefitted from Stan's OL recruiting (so did Brady Hoke). Neu's recruiting AND program management have both been largely atrocious.

We all owe Stan Parrish a thanks for bringing the two best QBs ever to play for Ball State. The man had an eye for college talent. I really thought he would be a success here but it was not to be. But it's more than that. Stan also was a fabulous recruiter of offensive linemen, linebackers, and offensive skill players. He wasn't a great head coach, but his year was also a tweener year. Our NFL caliber OL had graduated, and the up and comers weren't ready--and it showed. Poor Wenning and the RB's got killed. Stan gets far too much flack. Pete was a great leader and program manager, IMHO. But Pete allowed himself to get too jaded (internally and externally) by the support deficiencies outlined by Nufan (which are accurate). Once he became jaded, he developed a defeatist mentality - recruiting fell off the rails, excuses became the norm, and Pete became disengaged from his staff and players (something that used to be a strength of his). I post all of this with great respect and admiration for Pete. He became a good friend and mentor at times. Anyone can get off track. And believe me, he and his family have paid the price for it: 3 stops in the four years since bolting. I really hope Memphis works out for him. He is a good man deep down. And let's be honest, BSU sucks as an institution. From what I hear from every employee I know, it is easy to get extremely depressed and jaded working there. I have a great deal of admiration for Stan too. He largely built the best rosters BSU ever had, and engineered some of our best offenses ever too. Skrosky was no slouch either. I have a hard time respecting Neu, though. As an alum, I expected him to be much more engaged and successful. He has been a complete flop, and does nothing in the community or on campus.

My thoughts on the recruit issues are connected to other issues. The last couple of years at BSU we’re an uphill battle. Other conference teams were pouring a lot of money into their programs. The improved facilities, added indoor practice facilities etc. Higher recruiting budgets allow for more expansive geographical searches. Players like bling when discussing facilities too. Head coaches aren’t out there beating the bushes for players. Assistant coaches do that. I think when Coach Lembo lost more than half his staff , he lost the main body of his strong recruiters. Jay Bateman, now at UNC comes to mind. He was just named one of the best recruiters in the ACC. Anyway, as far as I know, assistants find the talent HC helps seal the deal. When the original staff broke up, as they all moved on to higher levels and much higher play, it added another obstacle. Recruiting is a primary function for assistant coaches. A good recruiter could worth more than his X&O value. That original staff could not be replaced with the BSU.staff budget.

I like it. Really a pretty civil discussion on a former coach where we are all pretty much agreeing on what went wrong. Pretty sad though that years later alot of the same problems still remain.

We were all pretty pumped at his start and I certainly thought we were in for good times as a potential conference leader. As has been stated numerous times here, when Strosky left, the plug got pulled and the ship started to sink.
I really hope we can see something positive this year that points to recovery. But that’s merely a fans hope. The reality is this is not in the CARDS. But maybe ........

Those are some good points about Parrish but he was 9-51-1 as a D-1 head coach. It's not like he was going to give us undefeated season based on his past.
I was in Portland (the one out west) last week and the people I was staying with were huge Ducks fans. The topic got to Brady Hoke. That was fun.
I'm going with the over with 5. MAC starts a little rough with at NIU and at an improved Eastern then at home with Toledo and Ohio. After that is at WMU. That is a very possible 0-5 start.

I tend to agree with 4-8 prediction. My 4 wins are Fordham, CMU, Kent St, and Miami.

After careful consideration of our staff, team, opponents, and most importantly, the consequences for being wrong, here are my season predictions:
IU - W 42-41 Fordham - W 60-0 FAU - W 24-16 NCSt - W 3-2 NIU - W 50-24 EMU - W 70-3 Toledo - W 7-3 Ohio - W 28-24 WMU - W 24-17 CMU - W 42-14 Kent - W 35-7 Miami - W 14-10

My initial guess was 4-8, but I am going to be optimistic and say 5-7.
