The criticism of Neal by Vanderbilt folks is exactly the same as what was said while he was At BSU. He is what he is. But his size and mobility might intrigue a pro team somewhere as a project. He has “arm talent” as they say, he just is unable to use it. He’s a damn good kid so I hope something good happens for him. Riley was flat out special the first 5ish starts of his freshman year...then something happened and he was never the same. Truly bizarre.

"He made no drastic mistakes, but he rarely tested Georgia’s secondary beyond 10 yards." "Mason echoed his new quarterback. But he also criticized Neal for leaving the pocket too soon on a few plays rather than keeping his eyes downfield for a deep pass." Man. I thought I was reading a Star-Press article from the past few years. No kidding!

Where have we seen that before?

Unpopular opinion from a Georgia insider - Mike Griffith thought Neal did a pretty good job extending plays against a very good Georgia defense. Depends on which lens you watch the game I guess.

Eh, I think the stats, lack of production and criticism from the head coach provide a pretty good lens. But maybe Riley will be significantly better the rest of the way.

Riley’s true talent is with his legs in my opinion. I was excited about that early and thought of the Western QB (name escapes me). He was a force. Best to him as we all know, he’s a quality individual.

Best to him as we all know, he’s a quality individual. Not that I’d have wanted to get him killed, but I would have been interested to see him in a run heavy offense like Ou and let Riley use his legs more. More read option and make teams have to stay home against him. Then pop a pass over the top. Making him a drop back pocket passer just hasn’t maximized his talent.

I think we could have had success there. Western used Lafeber (I think I remember now) well and it payed off. He was not a good passer and yet they won. We could have done the same, or at least given it a try. Riley was big and strong and could get some yardage.

Neal is not going to change with a few weeks of Vandy coaching at this point in his career. Had he attended a program with a Stan Parrish he might have turned out a different type of signal caller but after three years at Ball State and a year of injuries he made the same mistakes over and over again. Now he is making them at Vanderbilt. I wish him all the success in the world but I am afraid his football playing days are over at the end of this season.

I was excited about that early and thought of the Western QB (name escapes me). He was a force. Wassink? When I think of WMU QB's that were thorn in our sides, I think of Tony Kimbrough. I hated that guy. Tough as nails and a total playmaker. Riley was never the same runner after the Northwestern game. He got blown up at the knees, and limped the rest of the game. I think he lost something then. Confidence?

I think I remember a fumble by Neal at the goal that broke our backs against the Northwestern. I attended that game and one of The Sled regulars (don't want to mention his name without his permission) had everyone to his house near the NU campus. What a great day. Just another reason not to mess with The Sled.
