I think the kicking game was also a factor in the loss. You can't shank a punt for 9 yds with your back to the endzone, miss a short FG after having a score called back. Oh almost forgot about providing the Bobcats good field postion by by kicking the ball out of bounds twice.
Good point. Four major miscues. I just think we totally regressed in this game from almost every aspect. Coaching, playing, and on and on. I don't know if Plitt has small hands and can't grip the ball when it's wet, or what, but he sure hasn't been the same at NIU or against OU. Huntley's fumble seemed to just be a huge blow to our player's confidence in handling the ball. We did keep it close, thanks to some of OU's coaching decisions, but just seemed to suck Saturday. Like everyone else has said, put this one behind us and let's see what we can do at Western.

I wondered about Plitts grip/hand size too. He’s just not the same QB in wet conditions.
Fumbling our first play, understanding what the conditions were, and not taking care of the football, was unacceptable and a huge blow to our psyche. We were behind before the game even began.

How many touchdowns have we had called back due to penalties the past two games? I can think of three. One we scored again, one we took a fg, one we left empty handed.

Yeah that’s a concern. Undisciplined football. Huntley had a long run vs UT called back for holding too. We are sloppy.

I think HUntleys fumble against FAU could prove to be the play that Haunts us and Kills our bowl chances... It might replace the Newsome Sack whiff against Lynch and NIU

Yeh, and I still don't understand the enforcement on the play that you're talking about. I even asked Godett if he would ask Neu what explanation he was getting from the officials on that play. We gain about 50-60 yards get a very late flag from the back judge who, at that point, is probably close to the goal line and after the enforcement we are back at like our 30 yard line with about 12 yards to gain for the first down. I think it was a hold, but how that official saw something that late and that far away from where the ball carrier was was just confusing as hell to me. How we could have gotten penalized that much at the point in the play and etc., was just bewildering to me. Neu raised cane about it with the officials, but I have no idea what they told him. If somebody knows, please fill me in.

I always wear two gloves when it’s rainy or cold. Wait a minute, I made that up. It was Nate Davis that wore the gloves. From the Ball State glory year.

I’m with ya. Caleb was waaaay up field by the time the back judge threw the flag. And the call was on Rudy, who was behind the play. So it was confusing as hell when they marked us off from the LOS. thought it would be spot of the foul. Only explanation is that back judge saw something really egregious by Rudy from that far back and just threw his flag late. Made no sense. In fact, we thought it would be on Givan (who has a propensity for bad holds) as he was just a few yards behind Huntley with a few UT players. So ya got me.

Meh is very generous, and agreed on the special teams hurting us against OU.

Yeah, missing Pete Lembo expertise.

Yeah, missing Pete Lembo expertise. And the real mastermind behind it, Justin Lustig (don't get me wrong, though, Pet is a solid special teams guy).

Someone may have expressed these thoughts already, But here goes. Our boys just looked flat on both side of the ball. Total lack of emotion. Ohio’s traveling faithful (maybe 50) were more into the game then we seemed to be. The only time you enjoy those kind of games is when you look back over the years and say “remember that game we kick the crap out of Ohio, it rain the whole time...” not sure anyone will remember it, just a oh yeah, we did play. It seemed there was no thought to defensive line play. Their oline were big, strong. Maybe we don’t have the athletes to do it, but I don’t remember seeing any stunts, just straight up swim move on bull rush. Ohio’s lineman just waited for our guys to pick a side, then they waltzed out of the way, Rouke took a step, let it open and ran through. Guys were not watching past the block, head down running just to get back in the backfield, ball ran right by. It’s discouraging because everyone watching knows they’re better than they played. Still believe, just hope they’re hyped to head NW.
