I support the extension only if it means we can get rid of Whitford after this year. If we have to keep them both, heaven help whatever fan base will be left when those two eventually leave.
I do have to say though that someone mentioned something about crappy attendance the past two home games. C'mon man, the weather was pretty brutal for both those games.

I agree with Lmills72, the silver lining here possibly (hopefully) is getting rid of Whitford after this season. The chances of buying-out both were incredibly small, but maybe BSU can afford one. If so, getting rid of Whitford is the correct call. The "downtime" for re-tooling a basketball program is generally much shorter than for a football program.

If we do not have the money to buy out Neu then I doubt we have the money to buy out whit. Unless of course that has been the plan all along. Basketball has a more passionate fanbase so maybe someone has agreed to help foot the bill

I have never thought that mike has done much to engage the general public but most people really seem to like him. He has always been good to me when we have seen each other.. Whit on the other hand is not really liked by anyone besides his players. He has done less than Mike to engage the public and while Mike is personable Whit is just a turd

We are clearly better, at least offensively, than the past few years but we still can’t close out games and we stumble to the tape every year. Our defense is porous and lacks a killer instinct. Here’s the other bad trend. Our attendance is getting worse. We had five Saturday home games this year and the past three we’ve not had more than a few thousand fans. For Ohio and Central last week we couldn’t have had more than a 1000. Everyone but the diehards has checked out. Football and men’s basketball are you’re two marquee sports and we are just not relevant any more. I really thought Goetz would be tougher but she has bought into the theory that our coaches don’t have enough support in strength and conditioning and that lack of facility parity is handcuffing our recruitment. I like our coaches but the results are not worthy of attention any longer. We have resigned our program to being respectable and competitive not aggressive and championship focused. A sad reality indeed. Our teams are neither respectable nor competitive anymore. We are a bottom feeder. Sad. Basketball is not far behind the football program and from what I have seen or not seen from the young recruits, they could join the football team next year as bottom feeders. Double sad. How long can old alumni like me want to follow this program, I don’t know?

Our two highest profile coaches put forth a mediocre effort on PR and community engagement. One of the big deals for the basketball coach used to be a summer camp for kids. Whitford eventually gave up his because no one came. The coaches also used to make the rounds to all the service clubs and even spoke at local schools. Does any of that happen any more? What about engaging with our students on campus or the Greek system? If I were AD it wouldn’t be a request but a requirement to do all of these things. On your last point, I dont agree that Whit is a turd. I just think he’s socially awkward. Hard to believe from a D1 high profile job but he just is.

At one point IU had a surcharge for students because they had so many prior coaches they were paying. Let’s just do that. Or make every bsu employee tithe to the coaching fund. At some point some booster or group of boosters will have to come together and pay it I nominate cardfan.
