Another football season comes to an end.
We can say there were UPS and there were DOWNS. All in all, there were more ups this year than the three previous years.
We have better athletes We can depend on our QB (with some potential on the 2nd and 3rd teams) We have a STRONG running game We have a really decent offensive line We possessed a good kicking game We have good receivers Y’all can certainly add more.
Congratulations to the seniors. They put up with a lot over the last 4/5 years and came out today as winners!
We know where we stand with our head coach and this should assist our recruiting. Maybe there will be news going into next season.....maybe not.
Relax and enjoy the off-season Football Cardinals. We’ll be here to critique the preseason, as always.
Let me be the first to say that NEXT year will be where all of us finally see a MAC winner.

Yes, it will be very interesting. Do we lose quality players or just those that are not content. I think recruiting will be positive. But what about special teams changes? I would like A DC upgrade but not happening.

Good way to end the season. You got a look at next year - Receivers will be strong, running game, O-line. Hopefully the D makes another step forward. 2020 could be a good year. Really nice to have been at the game, have some good people around me at the game, we celebrated often in the second half.

We should be really good next year. But the defense has to be improved by whatever means necessary.

Gotta love a win over Miami in the finale despite the shaky first half and special team gaffes. Very happy for the seniors to get them this win in what amounted to our “bowl” game. We do have some holes to fill for next year though including: 1. We lose Dunner, Fletcher and Miller. All three were highly skilled pieces on our offense and handled all of our kickoff and punt returns. That is a lot of offensive firepower gone. 2. We lose Pinter, Poenitch and Ricketts on your o-line. 87 starts between those three. We have some decent depth here but those are still three valuable pieces to replace. 3. We lose both of our kickers, Lecorre and Rimmler. So we will have a brand new foot 🦶 on kickoffs, FGs and PATs. Sounds fairly inconsequential but still one of those things on special teams you sort of take for granted. 4. Jacob White, Ray Wilborn, Chris Crumb and Tuni Ropati all graduate. White and Wilborn are your 1st and 3rd leading tacklers and Crumb was 6th. White was your clear leader on the defense and this group ironically also had 87 combined starts in their careers. Overall, the offense should be solid again next year with another year of development but Miller, Fletcher and Dunner along with the linemen will be missed. Fletcher was pretty special as your number two RB. He finished with 1100 yards of total offense and 7 TDS. That is pretty phenomenal considering how much of a beast Huntley was. Big shoes to fill there. Riley was also so steady and solid. 1490 yards and 13 TDS the last two seasons combined. Yo must step up and be less streaky. Defensively, we just need a couple of lineman and someone to fill Jacobs shoes. They are big shoes though. I’d take a new DC too. Lots of good pieces coming back like Thomas, Albright and Jennette in the LB spots and other than Wilborn everyone returns in the secondary. Next year let’s go 🎳. Go Cards!

Nice to end the season with a win. We own two of our three rivalry trophies now. Need to get the bell back from Indiana State.

We should be really good next year. But the defense has to be improved by whatever means necessary. We will never win the MAC with that DC. It's a shame. I think we have the players on defense to be much better than we were. It's just a shame.

I was wrong with my thoughts about us going to a bowl game. I’ll own that. I can definitely say that the team has improved since we came in 3 years ago. I am proud of these seniors, and the efforts of all of the players. We can only hope for the continued improvement for this team.

Mike went with local connections over finding a guy who can actually run a good defense. We don’t even have to be a great defense as good as the offense has been. Just need to be solid. Just need to get off the field at winning time.

Funny story you guys might like...
Last night the wife and I went out with friends and some how ended up back on campus drinking at brothers.. Around midnight the door opens and in comes Jacob white carrying the red bird trophy. Most of the o line and linebackers were there. Well since its break it was basically our group of 40 somethings and the team. This led to us all drinking together and playing with the trophy everyone was passing it around like it was the stanley cup. I became the subject of much ridicule and scorn because its the one time in the last month I was wearing Notre Dame clothes lol.. it ended up being a pretty fun evening. We did not talk much football but the extension was mentioned and it was obvious thats what they wanted.. The love the have for NEU was very easy to see

THANKS TO YOU SENIORS. I know it is not easy to go to school and do what you have to do in a D-1 program. All you guys did it 4-5 years and went out winners. You and your teammates improved so much during your stay, EVERY fan is proud of your accomplishment. If you haven't graduated yet make sure you stick around and do so. A diploma from Ball State will serve you well as you go into the future. WE ARE ALL PROUD TO CALL YOU CARDINALS. CONGRATULATIONS

It was great to see our seniors go out with a victory, and I hope they'll all be finishing up their degrees in May, if they haven't already.
I feel like our losses, while significant, shouldn't be overwhelming to replace in terms of numbers.
On defense we return most of our defensive backfield and linebackers. We lose some of the line, but that's maybe also where we need the biggest upgrades. If there's nothing in the pipeline there and no help comes via recruiting, we better come up with something else to get some pressure on opposing QBs.
Offensively, always tough to lose experienced linemen, but if the kids and the coaches have been doing their job, we should have some decent ones waiting in the wings. I would hope Tyler would step right in a WR, but I thought he would have done that this year. He had 5 TDs on just 27 catches, compared to team leaders Hall (6TD/61catches) and Miller (6/43), so I hope whatever issues kept him from more snaps get solved. Fletcher was such a great surprise you do have to wonder if there's someone who will be able to step in at RB and fill those shoes.
I feel like our kickers under Neu have been adequate but neither Rimmler this year nor Hagee in years past have been real advantages. If you got them inside 40 yards they were pretty good, but beyond that it was a guessing game. I'd love to have someone you could have faith in up to 45 yards and who could reach the end zone on kickoffs.
Anyway, I think the personnel is basically there to have an improved year, but will be coaching get them there?
Slightly off topic: Anybody else think the Scheu needs some help facilities-wise? You walk up into the stands in some sections and the steps aren't attached and shift under your feet. That seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen. I see a lot of trash that just seems to linger from game to game, like some areas of the stadium aren't even picked up between games. Some of the railings are just peeling paint and rust. And the conference team flags on the student side look like they're been there since I was in school. Are we that broke that we can't get new ones? Probably cost us a couple hundred bucks.
Slightly off topic 2: I sure hope we get to the point where we can draw a few more students who can run out the opposing team fans who've started sitting behind the visitor's bench. I liked them stuck over in the corner.

Email Beth about those issues. She needs to know the stadium is crumbling. (That’s what you get when sports facilities are not run by, you know, athletics)
