The Lynch family has resulted in us having a coach who lost 21 straight games, a DC whom we just fired, and an OC who blew our best chance to win a bowl. All due respect, they'd be about the last people I'd reach out to at this point. I think he was kidding. You were kidding weren’t you 00hmh? Seriously. You were joking. If I had to guess I would say he was not joking

I'd take input from anyone on this decision. Neu should not make the call on his own and Beth should do due diligence.
The Lynch connection not likely to be very important but whatever the history at BSU, if Lynch has something to say, I'd listen.

He listened to lynch on Elson. How’d that work out?
I can see Beth researching backgrounds bit I can’t see her telling mike who to hire.

Beth threw Neu the life preserver. It’s his call to get it right. If a manager has to manage the manager, then you don’t need him in the first place.

Neu has little in the way of connection in college coaching, one fairly big problem with hiring a guy with no previous D1 coaching at a high level.
In that way hiring a lower level college coach with a proven staff is better. In terms of recruiting both those choices are in a bit of trouble. It's proven assistants who do the recruiting. And at BSU they also have to coach.

I agree with that.

Mikes a football guy. They will review the applicants and go from there. What hinders him is his lack of college coaching. By that I mean not knowing lots of people who he could go to to try and entice someone to consider the position. Or get feedback from others in the profession. Just some random thoughts.

Hire some smart, young, up-and-coming high school coaches from Ohio.

Hire some smart, young, up-and-coming high school coaches from Ohio. I would think to could look at the smart, young, up-and-coming DC from the ranks of D2/D3 playoff teams. Probably find resume that’s backed by 2-3 years of making it happen. There’s got to be someone with some proven experience that could come in. I would rather find the guy with positive, proven results that may be short of the recruit end of things to revamp the defense. We’ve got talent. Need to build size and get the boys orientation/execution right. Come out hard and fast next year on defense and recruiting won’t fall as much.

On defense never have enough talent. And must fit scheme.
Probably have to seek that young guy with a good record who can explain how his scheme fits our talent and I disagree we can sacrifice much recruiting. Must know Ohio, Pennsylvania and/or South for recruiting.

Knows the MAC, played at Kent State, coached at Tiffin, coached prior to that high school in Pennsylvania.

What exactly does it mean to "know" Pennsylvania or Ohio or "the south". If this is a vital qualification, then it can surely be defined pretty definitely. Anyone can navigate these areas with a cell phone, and the talent turns over every year...so what is it that you "know"?
I think this is all conventional wisdom bullshit that makes clueless, scared, dumbshit administrators feel like they are making a "safe" choice. Actually recruiting ability is all about energy and enthusiasm and relating to 17-year-olds. You don't need to "know" any particular geographic area if you have that. Recruiters recruit. You can be from the Kola Peninsula or Terra del Fuego or wherever and be a huge success if you have the characteristics of a recruiter.
