Excellent observations and posts from above. I want to be excited for this team but I've learned to be cautiously optimistic with Whit's teams. I keep thinking this is the year...

This team feels different, but the history is undeniable and Western Illinois was not a bad nightmare. It actually did happen. Still I'm cautiously optimistic and hopeful.

Whit could not win with some of you even if he wins the MAC! I hope we get to test your hypothesis.

I hope we get to test your hypothesis. Who can disagree about that! Kid has a point though. He only has a point if whit ever wins a Mac title. Hasn’t been close yet so we don’t know. Hypotheticals is all kid has so far. We are all hoping Whitford proves us wrong because that would mean we finally made it.

Sure.
But a few are so invested in criticism they seem to me to have loss objectivity.
Frustration leads to some demonization and derision, sometimes just nit picking and sometimes outright character assassination. That is overboard.
All understandable up to a point. We are fans... Reasonable and objective not in definition.

I’ll say it— if we win a MAC tourney with Whit I’ll see him as having earned respect. Winning a championship and playing in the NCAA tourney is where I want us to get beck to. If he can finally get that done then he’s the man. (I mean, even Al Brown managed to get one).

I mean, even Al Brown managed to get one. Palombizio.
There are a lot of stories about the Al Brown Era. After the big guy and his wing man Shelton left, the Program Al built was 9-18 the next year, with a pretty good new coach. Maybe we want more than that.
I was just thinking of that stretch, Holstein, Yoder and Brown. 15 years. And. We don't need to look at the 15 years before that...
Still, we should probably remember all that history for perspective. Our History did not start in 1988. Lots of things came together to produce the magic years.

Teague. El-Amin.
I know the Beez put that team on his back in the tourney. Whit has to extract that same desire and fight out of his stud, Teague. We saw what Taj can do vs Buffalo.

I have fond memories of the two years I spent in Muncie. Those were the Al Brown years. It used to be a packed house in that small gym when Palombizio played. Great atmosphere for basketball!

Small gym but students loved basketball back in that day. Love my seats about 5 feet from the visitor's bench on the baseline.
Many differences in the way college basketball worked and it was a joy. Even watching Al and his chaotic organization. A simpler world all around.
