I didn’t have a ticket for the Ball State vs Nebraska game with Ray and his former Muncie Central Mr. Basketball Jack Moore on the Nebraska team. Knew the gym like the back of my hand and snuck in anyway. Cards won. Great game. The old gym was fun. I’d always set on the first row Close to the basket and could almost reach out and touch the players. Great atmosphere. Wish the arena we now have seated 6-7,000 and had seats that touched the playing court. What a home team advantage we’d have. We still draw better than almost all other MAC teams. If we would have 4,800 in Men’s Gym it would have been packed and crazy mad!

Small correction— Jack Moore didn’t win Mr. Basketball. Should have, but didn’t.

Since we are playing akron I was reading up thier arena holds 5500.. We went to ND while in a huge awesome building the actually seating only holds 7000 or so.. Toledo also smaller when it comes to number of seats. Our average attendance at any of those places would make them seem mostly full.. Worthern is so big it looks empty even with a decent crowd

Our eyes were definitely bigger than our fanbase when we built it. Of course it was assumed Rick would still be the coach when it was finished and the crowds would be big.

But planned and built on dreams. Before Rick. THEN. Spent a little more for upgrade coach. And, Rick did it. Dick did it,too. Must be easy. Let's spend elsewhere, cash in on it. Worked for a while. Then it all fell down.

Sure. But a few are so invested in criticism they seem to me to have loss objectivity. Frustration leads to some demonization and derision, sometimes just nit picking and sometimes outright character assassination. That is overboard. All understandable up to a point. We are fans... Reasonable and objective not in definition. Sorry to say, I resemble this remark. I'm normally the type of guy who thinks the Devil you know is better than the Devil you don't. I keep hoping things will get better before thinking things need to be blown-up and started anew. But last year I crossed the Rubicon with Whitford. He had his best big man recruit as a senior in Moses. You can argue Teague is his best big man recruit, but I still believe Teague is a SF playing out of position. Whitford also probably had his best G recruit playing again his senior season and it all ended badly. I'm convinced it is going to happen again this season in spite of the recent uptick in performance. Until I see differently, I'm convinced several Western Illinois type performances will occur in late February to early March and this season will end the same way the last few Whitford coached seasons have. More importantly, Whitford's recruiting has bottomed out. He hasn't recruited a 3-star since the 2017-18 when he got Jarron Coleman and Whitford's glory days were a year or two before that when he got the likes of Teague, Sellers, and Jeremie Tyler. Back then he could still convince recruits it was going to be different and Whitford would return BSU to it's past glory. That story no longer sells to potential recruits. They have seen what Whitford is. The chances of him turning it around this season with some signing in the spring is slim to none. It appears to me the roster in future years under Whitford will just be less and less talented. Better enjoy Teague and Ish while we still have them. I suspect the only thing the last few wins have done is justify keeping Whitford around until the end of his contract instead of buying him out after this year or next. It's just bought us a few more years of mediocrity before we have a chance of rebuilding a basketball program capable of getting to the NCAA tournament, or at least the NIT. I hope Whitford proves me wrong this year, but I lost hope in him after last season. The Western Illinois experience this year just re-enforced my belief in him.

I’ll say it— if we win a MAC tourney with Whit I’ll see him as having earned respect. Winning a championship and playing in the NCAA tourney is where I want us to get beck to. If he can finally get that done then he’s the man. (I mean, even Al Brown managed to get one). Then.....we’d be looking for another coach.

Back to my reminiscing... The best basketball match-up during the Al Brown years was Ron Harper from Miami U vs. Palombizio. The Mac conference, at that time was very respected for basketball and star power with ESPN highlights during sports center. Those definitely were the best of times....to those of us old-timers.

Harper called Palombizio a bitch. Beez was motivated. Had one helluva tourney.

I hope we get to test your hypothesis. Who can disagree about that! Kid has a point though. Maybe but Kid has pretty high expectations for the year himself. He's already on record as saying it would take the best record in the MAC regular season or a tournament championship for him to want to keep Whitford around beyond this year. Anything less and sounds like he's also for shopping for a new coach.

Kid will respect and recognize the good done though. Most of us probably do. A few just can't do it. That's his valid point.

I don't think Kid's point is fair. My standard is winning somewhat regular championships. Whit hasn't won any championships and therefore has never met my standard. Saying he still wouldn't meet my standard if he won a championship is saying that I'm lying about what my standard really is. Having never met what I'm claiming my standard is, there is nothing to suggest I'm lying about my standard. Therefore Kid's comment is unfair.
I acknowledge that Kid's comment was directed at "some of you" and I'm probably not in that group since Kid and I get along. But I think the same analysis applies to others. For his point to be fair he has to show how the specific individuals moved the goalposts.
