No Cardfan, what I said is potentially a 11 point scorer with 5-6 rebounds and a steal or two plus home court could have possibly changed the outcome??? You aren’t counting home court at all in your comment . Like it did vs Western I’ll? Or nku? Or Loyola Chicago? We could have played on the moon and it wouldn’t have mattered vs Akron. kJ averages 8 points and 3 rebounds for his career. That’s about what he is.

Granted Akron played well second half, and sure they might not always do that, but we need more than Walton off the bench in Cleveland to beat these guys.
They are not SO good we can't beat them. Not like Buffalo has been.
The start of the second half they were very good, and we were not coming back if worn down. The whole game we had no bench scoring, no spark there. Not many good minutes.
Not sure how bad the shooting was second half for us, it wasn't great first half, defense suffered after halftime, they got very hot second half, that was surely related.
Not all about bench players failing. Our starters can play better.
Against better teams on the road Teague, Ish, Mallers, all or at least 2 of 3 have to be really on. We can expect more out of our vets. Especially need near perfection if Coleman and Bumbalough are throttled. And no bench. One or two starters playing and defending well is not enough.
Good and bad news there about the freshmen starters. Freshmen are bound to disappoint more, and they do learn that tough road games against teams that have scouted them well demand play at a new level.

Home court usually makes a difference and I agree that crew was horrid. But, you make your own breaks. Last time I checked we play 9 at home and 9 on the road. Akron cranked up the pressure and intensity and we couldn’t match it.
I agree with Reevo in that our on the ball defense is bad. Coleman especially is a below average defender and gets beaten off the dribble a lot. Our freshman guards got a taste of MAC road rash tonight. Hopefully they come back with a vengeance next game. No Walton hurts too. I gather he must have a high ankle sprain if he keeps missing games like this. That really hurts our guard depth.
Not seen the final shooting numbers but as has been said by many on the board, when we shoot well we are gonna win most games and when we don’t we can be drilled like tonight. And once again, when the wheels start to come off Whitford is clueless on how to stem the tide. I’ve seen that act so many times it’s like Groundhog Day. Ugh.
Oh well, throw this one in the shitter and get ready for the next. That’s all we can do.

We couldn't play 3 good games to start the season. Will need that at the end of the season.
I am not surprised. Would have been a lot surprised if we had won. I don't think we are a finished product, didn't think now so good we would win.
We showed weaknesses. None really surprising. We can address them. Solve some, be much better.

We got exposed a little so now we have to bounce back and figure out what went wrong. We are still 2-1 in the mac no need to throw it into panic mode yet

I think we’ll win the west or be top 2. But that doesn’t matter if we can’t beat a top East team in Cleveland. We’ll get better but we aren’t going to get any quicker or bigger. Hazen has GOT to give us something. Yes, we need a healthy KJ. That’s about it for the bench. Tell me again why we didn’t redshirt Hendricks and probably Kroft? They can’t get on the court. And can Huggins not help at all? Thomas? So much for player development.

The turds are starting to fall and will continue to do so. Did any of you really expect anything else? This team will win a game a two it should not and get some of the faithful to sing the praises of Whit but in the end they will disappoint and lose early in the MAC tournament and will be sitting the the baseball bleachers in March.

Hazen has GOT to give us something. Yes, we need a healthy KJ. That’s about it for the bench. Conference season reveals things because teams spend more time scouting, and opponents intensity at home ramps up. But the flip side is that we also learn, see how other similar teams successfully play against conference opponents and their strengths. This was not a good game where we played our best and were hosed.
As far as improvement in using players, we can get more from Hazen. Up front, based on practice last year we could get something from Thomas as wll as Hazen, but so far... In terms of player improvement we have a number of young players who will get at least a little better.
We can't get quicker exactly, but we were quick enough for Toledo and Buffalo. Against the really quick guys, both Coleman and Bumbalough can do better on D with what they have, can adjust, and anticipate, not get caught flat footed. They are not finished goods. Ish was a really a liability last year at this time, he has improved. Admittedly still not really good, but better.
But to compensate we also need really good team defense and help. That requires every player not just the two guards being more alert, smarter and anticipating better than last night. To sustain that kind of mental and physical sharpness at a higher level, and longer, we need KJ, Hazen, and probably 2 more bench players to also improve and be able to give us minutes.
Call it good news, the players like Kroft, Acree, maybe Thomas and maybe Hendricks, all who not playing consistently who are not ready, there is a reasonable expectation we get something more as they develop.

I agree with Cardfan, right now I believe it’s Akron, Kent, and BSU in that order which is fine. A lot can happen good or bad before Cleveland but I like our team and I like that they play hard till the end.
By the way, so far Teague is first team All Mac!

I missed the last two home games and for some reason, I was kind of excited to watch them last night. First half ok but nothing really to get excited about. Second half was the same old stuff we have watched for the past seven years: no adjustments, poor on the ball defense, no time-out to stop the bleeding, and the inability to get Teague inside more. Can Coleman even get in a defensive stance? Why isn't Bumbalough not bringing the ball up the court? Not impressed. If we can continue to win at home great, but unless we can find a consistent shooter, the road will be tough for this outfit.

Due to the technical problems with the CBS broadcast, I switched to the radio broadcast. Both Joel and David spoke about the officiating and how bad it was. Calls only seemed to go one way. Since I didn't see much of the second half, I have no idea. Joel asked David why Teague was not as prolific in the second; he responded that Akron doubled Taj in the second half. Go Cards! RF I didn’t notice bad officiating, just domination from Akron. They are clearly on another level. We don’t really have a chance against them if we see them in Cleveland. I couldn't agree more. Officiating was not the problem at all.
