Cards must win all Western Division games if they have any hope of a winning record. This should be a win! Go Cards.

Win all Western Division games, no way that is going to happen. More realistic is a split with Central Michigan and Northern Illinois and I wouldn't be surprised if Toledo gets them next time. But you are correct, they should beat Eastern Michigan twice. If not, they are in real trouble.

As always, how we handle the zone is key. Stand still and just chuck 3’s won’t work. (Unless we are draining a large number). We’ve beaten the zone well when we flash to the paint and find the soft spots inside. Hopefully our guards will be able to penetrate enough to accomplish that.
We should win but it’s at emu so who knows. They are 0-3 in the MAC-we should win= we go lay an egg.

Cards by 15. Eastern's campus remains devastated after their plans for a new mascot fell through when the soon-to-be-announced EMU emu jilted them for Liberty Mutual.

Eastern has been in “mascot purgatory” ever since it became taboo for them to honor the indigenous people of their region.

A zone slows the pace and makes it hard to beat them in a post up game. And hard to drive to the basket one on one. The prescription is often to beat the zone down the floor. Find a spot score quickly. Eastern has been good getting back.
We will do poorly just shooting outside. Long shots, poorer percentage, and desirable patience sometimes becomes a passive offense, too much standing around. OTOH, Bumbalough, Mallers and Ish who have a tough time against tight man defense would really have potential to get some uncontested shots. if they are hot they will stretch the defense and give Teague chances.
As said above, we have done well against EMU by passing into the lane to players moving through the zone and if we get the ball there finding interior passing options, as well used quick inside out play. Teague has done pretty well in that role flashing to the ball, and passing, and we might see Hazen and KJ have decent games receiving those interior passes.
Coleman has to play well, he won't beat the zone with quickness but he has size and if he can get a step into the seam he will force defenders to come to him.
Since both teams are low scoring and feature defense, and Eastern could slow the pace a bit on offense if they don't score off turnovers, a shooting drought which allowed either to get a lead would make for a long game for the team that falls behind.

I can see Walton having a big game working the baseline and finding the creases inside the zone. He’s got to be healthy enough to elevate, though.

I agree with Cardfan yet again, and hope Walton can go!
I’d like to hold serve at home and win half the games on the road; this should be one of the road games we take but no conference road games are gimmes

00hmh made mention of it in the Akron thread......Our Achilles heal has been that conference teams have the historical knowledge of each team’s players and the pre-conference game films to study and prepare game plans that have targeted our strengths and weaknesses.
The last couple of years the Cardinals have had difficulty overcoming an opponent with good pre-game preparation.

We finally found a team that shoots their free throws worse than we do.
