Extending Whitford, who began his fifth season with Ball State last Friday with a last-second loss at Dayton, was "absolutely" a priority for Sandy. Whitford has stocked the program with Indiana All-Stars in hopes of breaking an NCAA Tournament drought that dates to 2000.
Last spring Whitford made headlines when it was leaked that he interviewed for the Duquesne opening. ESPN mistakenly published a report saying that he had been hired by the Atlantic 10 program.
"When you have demonstrated success, you know people are going to look at your coaches. That’s life," Sandy told The Star Press. "There are many times you can’t compete financially as they go up in level. What you can do is show demonstrated loyalty that you appreciate what they’re doing. That’s what we did."
StarPress 11/13/17
We can thank those freaking Duquesne Dukes for making Colonel Sandy pee his pants and extend Whitford thru ‘21-‘22

Definitely sounds like they plan to get him back next year. That’s good because he’ll provide that perimeter shooting we’ve been lacking as well as serve as a replacement for Teague...... Whit probably anticipated this happening. That's why he so shrewdly left open a few scholarships, just for a case like this. It's all part of that roster management and strategery that you guys don't understand.

Definitely. While we might think the frontline will be a pathetic joke next year, Whitford is pulling off the 4d chess moves that will make Bsu a juggernaut

I will be shocked if Walton plays for us next yr or this yr either. EMU will be a good game on Saturday. Key will be if Teague comes back with a 20 pt game or EMU 7' Toure dominates inside like Mballa tonight while Teague fouls out.

We have 2 more years of this clown show. His only saving grace is he gets lucky with a couple of transfers because this current roster is not winning shit next year. It will be same ole same ole. You will see a drastic drop in schedule strength next year is my bet.

Whitford carefully groomed Huggins for this role by playing him extensive minutes in the non-conference season so that tonight against Buffalo's Big Man he was ready for his assignment. Like the General said, "Whitford is playing 4D chess" while other coaches are still playing checkers.

I also love how our players “flex” every time we make a contested layup or dunk. Ish, Teague, and Coleman do it a lot. Drives me crazy when we do that crap instead of focusing on you know....basic fundamentals that would save us from committing turnovers.

I wouldn't be surprised if we lost 4 of the remaining 5, but I hope not. Our typical February drought. Mallers has disappeared. We can't get the ball to Teague and when we do he passes it back out. Hazen is reluctant to shoot. Thompson gives us nothing but D. On the plus side I like the energy Ace, Boogie and Thomas bring.

When you're a conference player of the year contender you can't have more fouls than points, even when at least 2 of those fouls were bullshit, that just cannot happen.

And only 4 shots? Coleman and Ish were firing up shots with no regard to Teague.

I can’t resurrect the information, but it seemed that Coleman had a bunch of points at halftime and only 15 for the game. Maybe I’m wrong.
If correct, could Buffalo have made a halftime game plan adjustment? 🤔

Guys on the radio kept talking about Mallers being gassed. Kinda wondered if that was just during the game or if that is kinda a seasonal status with him ? He and Hazen play hard, but Hazen keeps passing up shots and Mallers has some good nights and others that aren't so good.

After last Saturday and the collapse yesterday, I will not be making the trip to Muncie to see the Cards lose. I will not also have to take the hike past all the empty parking spaces near the arena and get totally pissed off at the athletic department for treating their fans like thrash. Sick of the end of year collapse. Teams plays us once, make an adjustment, kick our ass.

When Hazen gets the ball underneath, he takes so long to get himself and the ball to the hoop he gets blocked 90% of the time. A total disappointment.
