He did not. I'm guessing this will be the norm going forward for all players. why did he not? Not sure about him specifically but with new transfer rules soon to be in place, if you redshirt a kid to let him grow/develop then you run the risk he bolts on you his 5th year. So, I think you'll see far fewer RS seasons. In the case of Hendricks, it couldn't have been more of a waste given the few minutes he played were meaningless. He cooked a whole season of eligibility playing 7 games and a total of 36 minutes.

I think what we need to do is intentionally set ourselves up as a feeder program.
It'll be kinda like football where we get big paydays for playing at Michigan or Indiana or wherever, but instead we'll sign something like a development contract. The MAC will align with the Big Ten, perhaps. Each MAC school will designate two scholarships each year to developmental players like a Hendriks and Huggins, or perhaps a Bumbalough who might have been deemed too short and slow for the big boys.
For that the MAC school gets maybe $150,000 a year with the Big Ten getting first choice when the player reaches transfer time (of course this would all be stipulated in whatever the player signs when he comes to a MAC school). The Big Ten schools can hold a mini draft of sorts.
If the Big Ten passes, but the player still wants to transfer, they can. But we still get the Big Ten cash.

D1 to JUCO only means one of two things: either grades weren't good or no one showed interest

D1 to JUCO only means one of two things: either grades weren't good or no one showed interest More likely nobody that met his lofty expectation showed interest.
If what he wanted was a change that met all his goals as expressed above, not surprised. He must now think he can prove himself at JUCO and get that interest.

Of course if you read his dads twitter... The reason is covid which could be at least partly true.. I think he was destined for D2 no matter the circunstance.. Like I've said before though he is a good kid and I hope a year at Juco gets him to be where he wants

Going to Texas is the answer?

As I said before: I don't see that there has been much untapped talent sitting on BSU's bench recently. I don't believe that Whitford could have won significantly more games, and certainly not a championship, by being less rigid or utilizing one or more players in a different way. Maybe he could have done marginally better, and maybe there is some issue with rigidity, but this is a side issue. Whitford's biggest shortcoming....by far....is recruiting. Kroft is one example of this. His problem was not that he was a good mid-range scorer wasted by the inflexible Whitford. His problem is that he's not that good. I think this will eventually be proven by his lack of future impact at the D1 level.
