Looking at the video (highlight video always hard to evaluate) the kid looks a little like Luke Brown. Stats say he doesn't score as much but has better team. One result on video he actually shows more off the ball, catch and shoot. Runs fast break more than Blackford.
Seems to me a lot of what Luke would be in college. Don't think we need 3 small guards.

Ball State picks up Finnish player Suokas
Tribune sports staff 15 hrs ago
MUNCIE — The Ball State men’s basketball team has added Finland junior national team guard Teemu Suokas.
The 6-foot-2 Suokas led HBA-Marsky of the Helsinki Basketball Academy to a perfect record this winter in Finland’s first division. The first European player the program has ever signed, he will join the Cardinals’ roster as a freshman next season.
“Teemu is a terrific lead guard from Finland who has played at a high level with his club and national teams and has performed very well with both,” BSU coach James Whitford said in a press release.
Suokas is coming off his third season with HBA-Marsky, having led the club with 12.1 points and 3.8 assists per game. He also averaged 1.1 steals per game. His team was 21-0 when the postseason was canceled because of the COVID-19 outbreak. The Helsinki native shot 56% from the floor, and his 44.8% mark from 3-point range was the best of any player in the league with at least 50 attempts.
Suokas played for Team Finland in the European Championships at both the U16 and U18 levels. In the summer of 2017, he was second on the U16 team with 9.0 points per game while also averaging 1.8 assists and 1.3 steals. In 2019, he averaged 8.9 points and 2.0 assists per game for the U18 squad.

Ball State picks up Finnish player I wonder if Trump's immigration ban will cover student visas.
We have lost recruits for odd reasons, but never Presidential executive order.

It's temporary. Will probably be resolved before July or August rolls around.

Be still my beating heart. ANOTHER 6'2'' guard....what a surprise (no caps on purpose)...when will you rose colored glass wearers learn...A grad of the HELSINKI BASKETBALL ACADEMY...Didn't Wooden coach there?...Think of all the great Finns he will follow...Can't wait till this guy start starts throwin (in the words of an old Oakland Football coach) ''doinks" from the three point line. His 1.9 rebounds per game shows me he is a scrapper (or is the reason he doesn't follow his shots?). I can hardly wait. Whit really scooped the entire basketball world on this recruit.

If he can really hit 44% threes, we can call him "White Death" like his super badass countryman, Simo Hayha.

Finland has produced some damn good basketball players and they are pretty physical.....I'm not sure why some knock whatever players Whit's staff recruits.....even though there have been some good ones in Persons, Teague, Moses, Ish, etc.

One could ask, that, if Whitford has indeed done a good job with recruiting and has gotten good players, why do we have just 2 MAC tourney wins in 7 years? Why are both his overall and MAC records sub .500 after 7 years? Does that mean he is just an ok coach if we are being too hard on his recruiting?

There is a very good pro right now but other than that Finland has not really provided the world much when it comes to basketball players unless the following lists are not complete.. Im not saying this kid is bad cause I have no idea.. I hope he is really good cause we need it basketball.realgm.com/national/teams/33/Finland/ncaa_playersbasketball.realgm.com/national/teams/33/Finland/nba_playersIt could probably be argued the Muncie Indiana has produced more good basketball players than the country of Finland

But here he made a pretty moderate claim. That SOME here slam EVERY recruit he brings in.
That's true enough.
Given the kid is responding to bsu0 whose substantive complaint about this recruit was that as a PG he didn't have a good rebounding stat, I wouldn't pile on the him here.
Besides. If we get into this game the next post will be "OTOH, if Whitford is such a bad recruiter, how has he had a winning record over the last 5 years?"
Why bother with that game? It's not going anywhere. We have an interesting recruit and I think we are all curious about him.

Finland is about 120 in the world in population. Maybe 5mil total population. Number of HS basketball players, I bet Muncie is way ahead.
I have no idea where they stand in number of NBA professionals compared to population.
Over time probably just Ron Bonham and Bonzi from Muncie made any impact in the NBA. But Muncie has no good professional in the league right now, none since Bonzi. About the same time as Mottola. So they are one up on us in the last 40 years..maybe they are catching up.
Including Euro and international players might be a better measure comparing to US college players in D1.
