Have to say that i agree with the IRS on this one. Don't know why NIL contributions should be a tax deduction. You're right. We need a way to help pay for all of those additional IRS agents.

But I'm thinking those agents will more than pay for themselves. IRS has been a toothless enforcement agency for about 20 years. IRS equipment and methods are from the last century and there just aren't as many agents as there were 30 years ago compared to the work load, resulting in high incentive for tax evasion, high dollar.
Cutting government spending on something that produces revenue doesn't make sense to me. No business in it's right mind systematically ignores customers who don't pay bills. That's what we have done in every budget since 1980 by not funding IRS.

Also provides the government with more muscle to keep people in line with approved political thinking.

Also provides the government with more muscle to keep people in line with approved political thinking. Given the degree in which our tax system is self policed I doubt the relatively small number of agents added are going to be much of a threat. The can't even track our finances very well much less our twisted thoughts. How they would tell what you and I are thinking is a job beyond the power of mere mortal IRS agents.
It surprises me I would be defending IRS bureaucracy since I have been on the other side of enforcement issues with clients. I'll give the devils their due, I guess, they are a necessary evil at the least.
Turns out my back of the envelope guess that a bigger budget and more IRS employees would be cost effective and bring in revenue has some evidence behind it.
The article shows where the money that comes in from better compliance is found.
Bottom line it concludes Congress just gave up about $240 billion in revenue, for $20 billion cut from IRS budget. Even if that estimate is way off, the odds are there are substantial gains from adding some well trained professionals to the IRS.

So the taxpayers save $240 billion. And based on the article you linked, it'll discourage audits on taxpayers under the 90th percentile, while allowing them to focus on those above. Don't you think the rich should "pay their fair share"? Sounds like a good deal to me (as someone well below the 90th percentile).

Don't the Colorado Campus Police realize that Shedeur Sander's NIL income is more than they make? You can't just ticket him cuz he parks without a permit. Why do I need so much NIL $$?? How else am I going to afford my Rolls Royce and my Audemars Piguet Royal Oak watch?

Now the NCAA is pitching the idea that schools should be able to pay athletes directly... but there's a catch. Male athletes and female athletes have to be paid the same as a group. "He wrote that the new policy would help gender equity by demanding that schools provide equal NIL investments for their men's and women's teams." ESPN story

Another way for a politically favored group to get its hands on money earned by somebody else. a.k.a. "equity".

This is inevitable. I just don’t understand why the MAC keeps holding on. The NCAA is going to push us to the second tier and we still won’t be able to afford football.
