Tough loss we wear down cause we have only 6 players worthy of real minutes I felt sorry for Brown. He was at the scorer's table waiting to check-in with about 1:30 left in the first half, but there wasn't a break in the action and then Toledo ran out the clock for a final shot and Lewis had to call him back to the bench. In the second half, there never was a low risk time to put him in. Still hasn't played since the team suspension and return to the team.

I know its not nice and some will frown but Lewis needs to say sorry not sorry and dump several bench guys use portal to bring in a slew of players

May not like the final score, but I must give the team a hand for effort. Again, they competed to the end. Thanks to the team for working and playing hard. One player I have really enjoyed seeing his growth is BigBen! He shots a high percentage from the field and the FT line. Does the little things like tapping a missed shot to a fellow player. Fun to watch. While I want us to win, if the teams plays hard and well, I can enjoy the effort and the game. Keep up the effort and the W’s will come.

I know its not nice and some will frown but Lewis needs to say sorry not sorry and dump several bench guys use portal to bring in a slew of players Given Lewis's history, I think we can consider Jihad's scholarship as "available" for this summer. That sneaky rat Whitford continues to undermine Lewis by leaving him too good of a roster.

No problem, everybody says he is too soft. Might have to pay Whitford's other big man recruit big NIL money to return for another year and see big Ben be the monster we have always expected him to be.

Well I think we all see that the team is getting better. We all cried about losing to Central but they really took it to Kent. Is Brown a good player or not?

Rep is a Brown might have been a bit of a head case in HS. In any case didn't meet high expectations. Talented but needs physical development along with college experience. So he COULD in the future be good, right now we're lucky if he has it together for his time on the court and can handle the physical play.

I'd guess Brown, Middleton, Jones, Doughty are keepers.
Bell, the Euro, and Adams gotta be question marks.
Not clear completely what happens with Watt, Hendricks but with two signings for next year who seem legit. One a guard, one an athletic decent sized forward. I've been expecting we lose 4 or 5 from the roster and hit the portal for a big man, guard and/or wing shooter.
Keeping Jihad hardest challenge. But if the rule is anybody can transfer any time, who knows about any of our starters.

Brown needed a red shirt. Long way off from contributing.

It used to be that the scheme of devoting multiple scholarships to young players needing development so that you could get high quality production of them as juniors and seniors was a viable roster strategy. True you would have a few scholarships that were unproductive for a year or two, but you would be rewarded later. Now the reward has been taken away or significantly reduced as the players are likely to leave once they reach a certain level.
The current MAC contenders get some production from players they recruited straight from HS, but the majority of their roster production comes from transfers now. You can moan and wail about the portal all you want, but that's just the way it is.
So if the idea here now is that, at some point in the future, Brown, Middleton, Jones, Doughty and the two signees will develop and carry us to a championship, that's just stupid. That thinking will just lead to an endless series of "rebuilding" seasons like this one. And nothing will ever be built. We do not decide who is a "keeper" and who isn't. The portal decides. Besides that, neither Brown, Middleton, Jones, nor Doughty strike me as future impact players. Possibly decent MAC starters...maybe even above average...but you need more than that for a championship. Also, I know little about the two signees, but they are something like Joey Brown in that they received high major interest earlier in their careers, but no longer do. I have no idea why.
It may be difficult for you all to grasp after, lo, these many years, but Ball State CAN win the MAC again at some point. Some MAC program manages to do it every single year. But the develop-young-players-during-"rebuilding"-years is just another way to keep the program's head stuck up its own ass. Lewis needs to show he can work the portal in positive way THIS OFF-SEASON, or in my evaluation he becomes just another failed coach whose contract we have to wait out.
