We have a great track record of successfully fending off other MAC teams from the five-star athletes EC Indiana regularly chugs out of this hoops mecca like Brown (dud), Bumbalough (bricklayer), Sparks (actual stud), Reggie Bass (oops), Jeremiah Davis (doghouse), Luke Bryan (who?), Reggie Jones (waiting), Tayler Persons (Stud), Kaleb Mallory (shorter than Kevin Hart), Tyler Koch (still not sure) and lastly Juwan Scaife (stud). I really liked his game and he might be the best player to come out of Muncie in two decades unless I'm missing someone. Mason Gillis from New Castle is still playing at PU in his ninth and final year I think. A few New Castle kids and a couple from Yorktown played at Butler quite a while back. Sadly, ECI just doesn't produce the same level or quantity of boys HS hoops talent as back in the day. Unrelated side note: In scanning old rosters, I had to chuckle the year we had Majok Majok and Mading Thok on the roster the same year. They were both imposing and Majok was actually pretty good as I recall. We also had crazy Dou Dou Gueye one year but he stunk as bad as his name. Elliott and Emerson Kampen from Yorktown went to Butler but never did anything. Same pretty much for Chase Stigall from New Castle. Kellen Dunham and Sean McDermott were Anderson kids who went to Pendleton Heights, then Butler. Further back there were the likes of Duane Clemens, Petey Jackson, Mickey Hosier, Billy Butts in addition to The Big Two. And, although not from ECI, clearly Dakich is forgetting about Zach Gunn. That was a huge IU miss. In all seriousness, all you had to do if you were an IU fan is look at the other team on the court last night to see several Indiana players IU missed on. I think he might be talking about Pete Campbell from Yorktown that went to Butler and did do something. He's one of their all time leading 3pt shooters.

There are still good players they just dont go to school anymore they are kicked out by ninth grade or just don't play It's not right that those pesky academic and behavioral standards get in the way of sports, which is really what makes the world go round. Can't we just give those kids $50,000 a year for an apartment and a car and let them show up for practices and games? You mean like college now?

Is this the same Pete Campbell that went to NYC to work with Don Draper at Sterling Cooper?

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Dave Barber. He was our "get us a free Rax" guy.

Dave Barber would be the captain of the all-looks-like-a-rec-league-player team. But may have been quite a valuable player if his career didn't happen to coincide with the two strongest and deepest teams we ever had. Shot 12-24 (50%) three pointers and 4-12 (33%) free throws in two year career, strange but no doubt a statistical artifact of the small sample size.

New Castle was a Butler pipeline for a while. Darnell Archey and a few other guards who were pretty solid and yes I knew the Kampen boys went to Butler but as noted Pete Campbell was the best player from DelCo to play at Hinkle. Back to the OG point which is ECI just doesn't produce talent like they used to.

Or Greg Miller
Mentioned this on another thread.
I have given some thought in the past to these topics in relation to the fall of Ball State.
1. Single class basketball in Indiana ended in 1997. 2. The rise of AAU basketball and devaluation of Indiana HS basketball.
Coincidence or contributor?
Some people blame it on the Colts and that HS football has grown so big now. Some kids don't play basketball anymore that certainly would have in the past.

But yet during the same period, Butler went on an incredible run that didn't end until they finally picked a dud coach in Lavall Jordan in 2017. And the Browns don't keep Kent and Akron from bitch slapping us every year for decades.

It's not the Colts that anything to do with Butler.
I'll buy it has to do more with their inability to recruit. Indiana talent deficient? B10 competition in Midwest stiff? Failure to break into the Big East city recruiting footprint? A poor coaching choice? All of the above?
How will NIL impact them? Some of the Big East better situated there by far.

Dang, this thread is depressing. I just read the whole thing, and now I'm felling like BSU returning to its former glory is hopeless.
