Don't care how potentially deep we are up front, we ain't going anywhere without better guard play than we had last year.
But, if Sparks, Jihad, Pearson, Hendriks, Jones and Dougty all stay, might be kind of a recruiting luxury at this point to have to just be focused on guards.

Welcome back Payton! Hopefully he can pull an Ali Ali and leave, come back, be 1st team all conference, and get to the big dance.

With Sparks, and maybe Jihad to pay NIL,I wonder if we have NIL to afford him or an equivalent replacement guard. Bailey, Pearson,Jones ...and all others on the roster. What's our budget?

Yeah, and we lose Anderson, Middleton, adding only Watts and a Freshman. That's at best a push. We need another good guard and for players to improve. If we were keeping Anderson, maybe enough.

I don’t think we could get Sellers but with him plus Anderson staying suddenly we’re Dancing!! It’s been so long…let a guy dream Anderson told me he was leaving yesterday did he tell you he was staying today

No but there is hope!
With Sparks, Jihad, Bailey, Pearson, Ben, and Jones back I don’t understand why he would want to leave??!!
If he would return we are truly a legitimate threat to make the Dance!

We do obviously need guards as has been pointed out. But there are so many more people walking the planet who are in the 6-0 to 6-3 range as opposed to the 6-7 to 6-9 range, so guards are generally easier to find.
As has also been pointed out, it would be really good to get rid of some of the detritus on the roster about now. The return of Sparks creates a chance for something we haven't had here in a very long time and so I'm not feeling very sympathetic towards those holding scholarships without contributing.
It's nice to see some optimism based on realistic possibilities for a change, as opposed to the optimism based on denial of reality that we've seen so much of around here.

Sparks return could indeed have a domino effect on keeping or attracting players. Our front court looks deep if Bashir stays. Talk about a battle for minutes. Sparks, Jihad, Pearson, Jones, Hendricks and Doughty? That would be like Christmas especially because some of these guys could actually play the position best suited for them. Pearson and Jones at the 3, Sparks and Hendricks at the 5 and Jihad at the 4 spot. I’m hoping Doughty could be athletic enough to develop into a 4 as well.
Guards. We need more guards. If Anderson is truly gone that’s a blow. Middleton also leaving and if Bailey bolts we lose our top three guards. As Sherm points out, they are far more plentiful so that’s the mission for Mike and the staff. Need a pair of athletic 2 guards and another point.

Verbal commits has Jalin Anderson entering the portal this morning. I was hoping Sparks and likely Jihad returning might get him to change his mind.

That's my guess too. on the money
At least we know early in the process that he's leaving. It's a better spot to be in than Sellers leaving in late May and Coleman in August.

I imagine Lewis is scenting opportunity here to dramatically improve his career trajectory, so hopefully he is....yeah, you know it....HITTING THE PORTAL LIKE A M----------R.
Also, to some degree, having a program that generates some hope and excitement on one hand, and getting increased NIL money on the other hand is a chicken and egg situation. If you have one, you can more reasonably expect the other to follow. And if you have neither, it's a real fight to get either. The return of Sparks could be just the break that was needed to help things along. This assumes somebody, somewhere, somehow associated with the program thinks along these lines and is willing to make an effort.
