With Whitford being on the verge of clinching a top 10 MAC finish, we may soon regret that we didn't follow this very prophetic advice.
You cannot assume the extension is bad...20-20 hindsight makes it clear. Not to pile on but the dude was rewarded for winning 20 games against one of the worst schedules in the Country. It was all smoke and mirrors. I said from the get go you cannot win consistently playing his style of basketball. We cannot get enough skilled athletes to play this way. We are to easy to prepare for and we do not have the studs necessary to overcome this. We might get hot in the tournament but it will not change the fact that Whitford is not the answer.

You cannot assume the extension is bad...20-20 hindsight makes it clear. Yet most of this board was opposed to extending him back in 2016. Look at the comments. Most of us wanted year 4 to be a prove it yr. Maybe a minority wanted to outright fire him, granted I would say I was much more in the prove it year boat .

WRONG. Completely wrong.
I saw very clearly, at the time it was made, that the extension was a terrible idea. In fact, I was so irate that I quit the board for a few months. It did NOT take hindsight to see how bad of an idea it was. You merely had to have your eyes open to what was happening, and a little knowledge of recent history. It was plainly stupid and short-sighted and I'm not the only one who realized it. It was stupid for all the reasons that I, and others, had been posting incessantly on this very board.
And your idea that we should have given Whitford an even bigger raise along with the extension is likely the single worst idea ever seen on this board. Just in case you are under any illusions, you WILL be reminded of this with great regularity going forward.
What is particularly apt and amusing is that your idiotic idea is an unholy offspring or your two favorite themes that you are endlessly promoting around here: acceptance of mediocrity and a compulsion to spend money. The "give Whitford a bigger raise" post perfectly and wonderfully encapsulates your thinking and it's consequences. This is why I will follow you to the gates of hell and back you magnificent son of a bitch.

He did but he spelled the whole F word out. He came back, though. We all do. You can see that post on the first page of this very thread. After that I stayed away for a few months. One day I came back to browse through a little and that's when I saw that Whitford took his raise and his extension and scooted off to California for the summer instead of putting in some desperately needed recruiting effort. I was so flabbergasted and disgusted by this that I was lured into making another series of posts. For me, BSU basketball is now like a book you pick out at the library that turns out to be bad. But by the time you realize it, you're a hundred pages into it and you are slightly curious how the plot turns out, so you just continue reading...maybe just skimming. The plot may be not be any good, but there is just a natural curiosity to follow a story to the end. The Whitford extension erased all doubt that the BSU administration was just incompetently going through the motions with the basketball program. I'm certainly not going to emotionally invest myself in a situation like that.

RC: Where do you think you're going? Are you going AWOL? Are you going AWOL? Sherm: No, I'm deserting. RC: You idiot! You desert now, it's a federal offense! Sherm: I'll take my chances with the feds! RC: You're not going anywhere! You listen to me! You're gonna finish basic training! You're gonna keep your mouth shut, and you're gonna do everything he tells you! You know why? Sherm: Why? RC: Because you talked me into this, you idiot! It was your idea! Sherm: I didn't talk you into this. You NEEDED this. RC: [drags Sherm back to the ground] I'm gonna kill you, damn you! Where's the great pay? Where's the travel? Where's the Winnebago, Goddamnit!

And then Sherman and RC were picked up by two extremely hot female MP's.

Full disclosure I went as far to PM Sherm and basically begged him to come back. I pleaded to him telling him we wanted him on this wall we needed him on this wall. I thought this would work but he stood his ground as a good general always does.. I thought for sure we had lost him him forever until that glorius day when he came back with six months of worth of pent up verbal frustation.. I pray we never lose the general again
