This is a lot of new talent on the court!Think about it, 7 foot, 6-9, 6-8, across the front line, 6-5, 6-3 at guard, both playing PG. These guys immediately add 5 players as a group that would likely be significantly better than the second team that played last year, maybe as good or better as our starters. All 5 are good size and physically talented players, as a group big and strong! Without Kam, the "new" front line players would match up and could probably use their size to overwhelm our returning group without Kam, even with Weber thrown in with the vets. In the back court and on the wing, the veterans would maybe have an edge in quickness and shooting, but this represents one of the biggest and best groups of new talent I can recall coming on line for the Cards. Classes including a single great player like Bonzi or T Smith, who not only can start, but can star immediately, or the overall impact adding Kidd and McCurdy might be more impact, but this group looks pretty good.

Trey Moses just posted that he was up to 6/10 now , good news , normally they seem to shrink when they get on campus , and even though they list Teague at 6/8 with his wing span he plays more like 6/9 ..... my starters are : Wells at the 5 , House at the 4 , Weber or Sellers at the 3 , Tyler at the 2 and Davis at the 1 ....... Which leaves either Weber or Sellers , Calhoun , Kiapway , Smith , Teague , Moses , Gill , off the bench , not bad ...

OK, so when do we find out if Teague is, in fact, eligible ? Can he be here and not be ?

I was told that he is qualified ..... I was very close with Coach Majerus and traveled with the team a few times and also appeared on his TV show as a guest. Having said that I love the references to some of those players like Kidd and McCurdy but there are many other potential analogies from my perspective (Wells and Mueller, Parrish and House etc.) that at mid season could be looked at. The Majerus team in 88/89 and Hunsaker team in 89/90 had great chemistry, depth, mental toughness, strong defenders, strong on t he boards and an array of weapons offensively inside and out. If this group can replicate a good amount of that you are talking NCAA at season end. Many folks may not realize it but that Hunsaker team that lost in the Sweet 16 to the eventual National Champs - UNLV by two points was National Champion material. I would be thrilled if this group shows some of that same grit, depth and talent so would our alums, students and the state in general.

With a solid big man on the floor at all times, a big weakness last year is eliminated. With more depth at guard we improve there, especially on defense. Weber, Sellers, Tyler, House all provide good offense, we need 3 of those 4 on the court as much as possible. Coach will have to be able to mix and match with skill and make sure everybody plays defense. But. While Wells and Moses are the size we need, one is a freshman and the other played only half of one season where he played something like half the minutes available. That leaves plenty of questions in the middle. We do have Calhoun who played significant minutes at center, a solid proven back up, but not a solution as a starter. We are probably still a little thin at guard with Davis, Tyler relatively proven quantities, but even there we need more offense out of Davis and more defense out Tyler. Kiapway and Smith provide more depth than we had last year, but neither may be the same quality as the guy they replace. Overall quality and consistency of guard play has to be considered a question, until proven. Where we seem to have the best talent is forward. Sellers and Weber need to be on the court a lot. House needs to play, and is the only real inside game. Teague is very promising and needs some time to play and get experience. Moses may be best used at power forward. But how many minutes are available for each? What mix? Can Weber play a stretch power forward? Can Sellers play some minutes at guard? Can Teague play center or power forward in the MAC? Should be a fun year, and we even have some Summer basketball coming up with the team getting preseason competition.

Man, I'm not sure how we go from 7 wins to the NCAA tourney. And I certainly wouldn't be making any comparisons between the current team and the Sweet 16 team, or any players on that great team. But, I do think we'll be improved. Maybe 15 wins or so.

But, I do think we'll be improved. Maybe 15 wins or so. I agree with not expecting an NCAA team, at least not this year. None of these players may be a Bonzi Wells, but we have the kind of Freshmen and Sophomores who have the talent to get to the NCAA as upperclassmen. We could easily have a T Smith here. The comparison I am happy to make about players is that they represent the same quality and potential impact as the good newcomers we have had in the past. Sure, probably not going to mean a championship this year, and not at all without continuing to develop and commit to being part of a great team. The talent is mostly young and mostly unproven, but we have this year what should be a significantly improved team, and one with a future.

I think 2 years from now we'll really see something with everyone getting another year of experience and Persons becoming eligible to play.

Agree. Looks like the arrow is pointing up for an interesting season. Let's see how the group develops. It will be really interesting to see how they recruit the next class. Is the word out that we are truly on the rise and something to be a part of or will we fall back a bit. Momentum is a big thing. As I said before, I think we are winning over the Indiana HS coaches or at least getting more of their trust. You can't understate the value there.

It is really nice to see optimistic things being said by the gurus of the basketball program. If Coach Whit can show some real improvement this season it would go a long way in convincing the state that BSU is on the right track and on the come back trail.
