What a bastard. He not only screwed the Colts he screwed the assistants that were to have been hired. He effed himself with the rest of the league outside of the patriots. Totally agree. He certainly learned from the Master on being a DH. Im beginning to wonder if A Luck might not ever be 💯 again?....and the league insiders know it.

Bleacher Report saying Colts "expected" McDaniels to back out and have three interviews set up Well, at least this is going as expected, so the Colts have that going for them!

Bleacher Report saying Colts "expected" McDaniels to back out and have three interviews set up My God. If you ever have an inkling that you don't have a deal, and it is going backwards, do you not just walk away from the deal? Wasted a f'ing large amount of time and effort to have get to "expected McDaniels to back out." Jim Mora is available. At least he'll tell you straight how he feels.

Not sure why we even look at people from the Patriots. All they do is screw us over every chance they get.

What is most troubling about this event is not so much losing Josh McDaniels. I was OK with hiring McDaniels, based on the information available, but it was by no means a sure thing that he would be a successful head coach. No need to rehash all the pros and cons in hiring him...it seemed like a reasonable calculated risk, based on what we knew....that's usually the best you can get.
The Colts are now in a situation where they will have to choose another and different calculated risk. Despite the late calendar date, there are still candidates available who are reasonable calculated risks. In fact, I'm hopeful that this situation will drive to Colts towards a candidate who is a bit out-of-the-box (e.g. someone who has the brains and balls to heed simple, basic probability, rather than hidebound traditional thinking, and regularly goes for it on 4th and short).
The key to the situation is the competence of the person who is assessing the calculated risk. We've had a lot of sad experience with this at BSU, since we have seen that the people assessing the risks in hiring and extending basketball coaches have been continually incompetent for almost 20 years....and that's why we are where we are. Contrast with Barry Collier. In the case of the Colts, the person assessing the risks is Chris Ballard, with possibly some input from (gulp) Jim Irsay. So, in my view, the worst thing about the McDaniels fiasco is how McDaniels was able to lead Ballard down the path to this point. An enormous ugly black mark against Ballard's judgement...and that judgement is the main factor in choosing a coach for the Colt's future.

In fairness to Ballard, if you have a guy that keeps telling you he's totally in, and starts assembling his coaching staff, you would likely assume that he's going to take the job.
But when you have McDaniels, a guy who has shown he has no integrity, and screwed over the guys he already brought to Indy... well, all I can say is thank God he bailed, because he would have been a nightmare.
If that's the kind of guy he is, he belongs in New England.

I have no idea of all that passed between McDaniels and Ballard during the interviews and other conversations. I don't know what McDaniels said or how good of a liar he is. All I know is that he fooled Ballard to the extent the that Colts announced McDaniels as their new coach. That's bad. Colts can move on from McDaniels, but Ballard will be around and calling the shots for a while.

A good negotiator can do this. Right now, Ballard looks suspect, as someone who can negotiate an important deal.

Of course, as Sherman astutely observed, we don't know how much Irsay had to do with the decision. As for McD, I sure wonder what he is saying to the staff he was building. That can't be pretty. Colts apparently are saying they will find places for those guys, but then that creates a problem even if the Colts find a good coach but one who wants to bring in his own people as you would expect.

Lost in all the coach search was the tragic death of Edwin Jackson and his driver.
Killed by a drunk illegal immigrant. It doesn't get more stupid and senseless than that.
