I just saw that Ray McCallum is on Ron Hunter's staff down at Georgia State as an associate head coach.
So let's say, for whatever reason, Whitford were to leave after this season, or even after next year. Doesn't matter why: gets canned, gets a better gig, wants out of Muncie...whatever.
What are the odds that BSU could talk Ray into come back and taking the reins again? Would Ray listen? Think he'd go for it to get another crack at being a head coach? Would it be good for everyone involved?

Ya gotta look through the windshield not the rearview mirror. Coaches that return to a campus after leaving historically do not do well.

1) He hasn't proven himself to be a good head coach. 2) He is almost 60 years old. 3) He has bad mouthed Ball State to other coaching candidates.

I'm sensing a pattern.

Is #3 really true? Not saying it isn’t, but I’d be both surprised, because bsu is his home, and not surprised, because of how BSU did him to run him out.

I wouldn’t doubt it if it comes from halftime. If there’s anyone attuned to those who have animus towards BSU, it’s him!

I will say Wendy was definitely ready to leave Muncie, for a variety of reasons. As far as Ron Hunter, eh.

Pass. Has a .516 winning percentage. There were 2 seasons out of 20 that were damn good years. The rest were decent to meh. I am not a fan of regurgitating coaches.

If I thought Ray would recruit like he did here in the 90's, then I would be highly enthusiastic about having him back. I doubt that he would though. Recruiting like that takes a ton of drive and energy....unless you have some sort of special advantage, which we don't.

There was a time I wanted his boss (Hunter) here.. twice, actually. Both before and after Ronny T. That ship has sailed though, as has Ray's best days as a HC I think.
