If we can get 3 Mac wins that’s progress after 1 win in two years. If we find a way to win four that’s really good. shoulda had the wku game and that would get us 5-6 wins and a good feeling for next year. Can’t count it tho. Still looking for less sloppy undisciplined efforts. We’re halfway through and should be playing cleaner. Coming out flat the last two weeks is a bad trend too.

I agree with cardfan and OOh. I mentioned last week that Neal's footwork needed some refining. If he would step up INTO the pocket rather than away from it, keep looking downfield, he could step into his throws and that would increase accuracy. 00h talked about the time it takes to build a team. That is the reason I advocated an announcement that Neu is here for the length of his contract no matter what. I think this time around we have to give the guy the chance we said we would to build a successful program. That would go a long way in building confidence with the present team and recruits that are considering Ball State. Anyone who knows recruiting knows that if a coach looks like he is in trouble and the recruiters see the blood in the water the sharks will circle. "Kid you don't want to go there that coach is gone after the season is over''.

The disappointing thing to me right now is that the defense, while still lacking, has played well enough to deliver maybe 2 more wins ... if the offense had held up its end of the bargain. Now, we're at a point where things are going to get tougher for the defense so the offense really needs to step up.
I'm sure the O-line injuries have been an issue, but we still have other issues with play calling and individuals. I would echo Cardfan's comments about Riley's pocket presence. Hall, for his excellent freshman campaign and preseason accolades, has not been a difference maker. Gilbert can't seem to stay on his feet for more than about 8 yards, even if basically untouched.
Other than Neal's legs, the only real difference maker we have on offense seems to be Dunner, who has only seen the ball much since Huntley's injury. I do like Huntley, but IMO Dunner needs to see much more of the ball (at least similar to his numbers yesterday in terms of touches). I'd compare him to Teague on the basketball team; they test their coaches with unwise decisions/play that can be costly, but when they play well they can do things others cannot.

I heard the short interview with Coach Neu going into halftime and he was NOT happy. I Liked to hear the fire. Whatever he did or said at halftime worked.

I feel like the wise old grandpa whos advice has finally been taken. This is the most sane and logical/truthful string of posts we have had in years. Lets hope we find a way to win a couple more

A few weeks ago I suggested 3-5 in MAC would be the floor for what I would consider satisfactory year to year improvement in year 3 for Neu. Now BSU is likely going to be underdog here on out, but imo it's not asking world of them to steal 1 of the 5 games given how up and down MAC teams have been on a week to week basis this season.
