I think upset is the wrong word.
I think it’s a good thing since it benefits all outdoor sports and the band. Its donated money and they can donate as they see fit.
As far as just football, many of us are just realistic about the ever escalating costs of having a football program. At the Mac level it won’t go on forever and isn’t sustainable. Doesn’t mean we don’t love and want football. (Well, maybe Sherm doesn’t). If we want to continue to remain in the Mac, and football is a required sport, then we should do what’s necessary to be competitive with the other schools. Bsu has always lagged behind. When even a school like emu shows more commitment to football....
But as long as we have outdoor sports the building will be beneficial.

I am amused at the number of Ball State football fans that are so upset about the prospect of our football team getting an indoor facility; a nice facility that could be used by multiple sports teams when there is inclement weather. What other fan base would react so negatively? We would rather fold the football program than build an indoor facility? OK... I guess I’m just wasting my time on this messageboard. There can be debate on whether or not it is money well spent, but if it happens, the student athletes at the very least will benefit so it wouldn’t be a complete waste. I may be ignorant and completely wrong, but it sounds like good news to me. There's some of that penetrating, air-tight logic that I expect to see on the football forum. You know what else I would like to see? Let's give every current student a new car! That would benefit them right? You're not against benefiting the students are you? And...a pony! Why not a nice pony for everyone?! Who could be against ponies? I may be ignorant and completely wrong, and moronic childish idiot now that you mention it, but it sounds like good news to me.

I personally find this disappointing, because it is more investment into the black hole of football - one from which we will never see a positive return. By the time MAC presidents get this it will be way too late, and they will have to make desperate moves out of necessity after watching all of their other programs disintegrate to nothing.

Well sfter reading this thread and comments I am putting my check book away and hanging on to the 7 figures.
When I said “moving forward” it was in reference to not going backwards in the direction we had come from.
I “was thrilled” aboit the facility and the graciousness of some of our alumni willing to fund such sizable amounts.
Typically 80% of the funding comes from 20% of the “donors” for these projects.
I am glad for their decisions to lead and wish the program well but I no longer am feeling it as they say especially when a forum of boosters such as this have little to anything good to say about the initiative or program.
I will be calling Murray State of the FCS and OVC in the morning instead as I know they will be “universally thrilled” from an administration and fan base perspective.
I really was excited about this news, being in a financial situation at this stage in my life to make a significant donation and thought it would be well received news!
All I have heard for decades is no we can’t or it won’t work blah blah blah negative negative negativei.
Damn glad I never took that approach or embrassed that attitude in founding my company when virtually everyone said it will never work etc. etc.!
I don’t surround myself with people that have zero vision and negative attitudes.
I always said why not or lets find a way. I had hundreds of no’s and you can’t but kept focused and pushed forward.
I will be taking my company public on the NYSE with my founding partner and just like capital investment will donate my money where it is most welcomed and appreciated!
I am done vetting my frustrations with negative attitudes at least for this evening!

Facts are facts. I’d say you should be happy you must have surrounded yourself with people that make good business decisions.

Why don't you donate your money to something that's not a zero sum situation? I mean, for every additional game Ball State wins, some other team loses an additional game and the net gain to society is zero. Whereas if you donate towards people who have had some sort of legitimate bad luck and could use help to get going again, there is a net gain to society as they have a chance to be both happier and more productive.
It's one thing to follow a team and root them to wins as a fun pastime, but to put out significant financial resources to influence the outcome is just silly. Anyone with half a brain can easily think of more worthy causes.

Yes Bigfoot, because donors should let a few people on a fan forum determine how and where their donations go, and why, right? It ain’t for us, it’s for the football program.
Or hey, send the money my way!

Everyone is entitled to spend/donate their money where they see fit. I choose to donate my nickles to football and will continue to do so until something happens. The structure is going to change probably sooner than later but until it does I am all in on football. Its just my favorite sport to follow and watch and I feel like that is good enough reason to give my money there. I just choose to ignore you guys when it comes to financial football discussions you all may be right but Im not going to let it piss on my parade.

Thanks Bigfoot for sharing this info. I find it exciting. We've been talking about needing an indoor facility for so long now. Don't let the comments in this thread get you down. Most of the negativity is coming from posters who only care about basketball. The hardcore fans will love this news.

Bigfoot - As a former BSU athlete, and someone who literally bled on beat-up dirt/grass fields for five long years many decades ago, I/we greatly appreciate your generosity. I wouldn’t let awful, bad attitudes sway your opportunity to leave your mark, your legacy, on the program and university. We both know that great attitudes win championships, while bad attitudes (well....). Plus, love has to be earned and BSU will earn that from our fans once we level the playing field with our athletic facilities. God Bless you.
