Indeed. I apologize for making the point in an asshole way, but records usually look better when you don't count the losses.
We always say 12-0 but it was 12-2. With the two that really mattered being in the wrong column.
And it was 10 years ago.
Sorry, I have repressed the MAC Championship game and sitting in the rain in Mobile. Even with the two losses that season was infinitely better than anything we have seen in Men's basketball since 2000. 18 years ago. The only season that Men's basketball has completed that was comparable to it on a national scale is the 89-90 Sweet Sixteen run. 28 years ago. Does anyone here seriously believe winning an FCS National Championship would bring BSU as much national attention as that 12-0 regular season? Some of you probably can, but I can't tell you who won the FCS National Championship last year. Dropping to FCS would not save a significant amount of money. Anyone who believes we spend the money we do on athletics in an attempt to win championships is misguided.

I saw where it was stated dropping to the FCS would not save a lot of money but it depends on how you run the program. Ind St still gives scholarships but Valpo & Butler don't in FB. That is a big difference. The current FCS limit is 63 although they can be split with up to 85 people getting them which is the limit in the FBS in which the scholarships can not be split.

I sat on the bus in the seats in front of the coaches wives crying (literally) about how now they wouldn't get to move to San Diego. Dead serious. It was enough to make me want to puke.

It has been almost 30 years since we won two games in the NCAA Tourney. At that time I asked, "Who won the NCAA Tourney almost 30 Years ago?" The answer was CCNY. I said, "Who?"
I think it is time to let that comparative thought go. Yes, we old timers will never forget the proud feeling we had for that team. But half of today's population says, "Who?"

I came in from Tucson, met friends and took the “fun” bus up fully expecting a party trip back. What a bummer. 😰

I'm for trying to emulate Butler... Trying to emulate another program seldom works, particularly the uniqueness of Butler. Barry Collier was an excellent hire. Even after he left for Nebraska, he kept connected to Butler and assisted when possible. He kept his interest enough in the program that he actually returned to Butler. He was also responsible in helping fill his coaching vacancy with a quality assistant Thad Matta, who also helped replace himself with a quality assistant Todd Lickliter, who replaced himself with another quality assistant in Brad Stevens. Have we had coaches at BSU that remained interested in BSU after leaving? I can't think of a single one, maybe Majerus. Have they brought in quality assistants that could replace them if they left? Butler did not pay Collier a substantially large salary to coach at Butler, nor did they pay Matta or Lickliter substanially large salaries. They began to pay Stevens a very attractive $750k salary + $250k perks only after he took them to two Final Fours. Butler did not grow the program by reallocating funds from one program to entice the right personnel to coach at Butler. They did it by hiring the right personnel, then got out of their way so they could grow a program. Collier was head coach for 11 years. In the past 4 decades, when has BSU had someone stay for 11 years? Hell, we cannot get an AD to stay for 11 years. Collier built a system. Folks bought into the system, especially his successors. Emulating Butler's success does not come from cannibalizing other sports.

UJ with the grenade! Neu won’t make it past next year, and then we start over. Again. And there won’t be money to pay an impact coach. But if true, an indoor facility doesn't count nearly enough in a world where MAC football as FBS cannot survive long term. Indoor facilities are a fact of life, not only in D1-FBS sports, but D1-FCS sports, and now beginning to become a practical necessity at the D-II level to allow ALL SPORTS to avoid inclement weather.
