Which is why adding buffalo didnt/doesn’t make sense. It does to Kent and Akron (1/3 of the East)

SEC has divisions in FB. FWIW. Most D-1 conferences with more than 10 teams have divisions for football, but the MAC is the only D-1 conference, that I can see, that has divisions for basketball. www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/standingsYeah, maybe we are trying to create rivalries and make that FB thing work better. Much of MAC management seems obsessed with FB first.
The bus league theory makes sense too. cardfan is right, though. I suggest that the MAC thought the TV market and entry to a little bit of East Coast exposure would build the league. Not that I think that is a great rationale.
Maybe their athletic success will turn out to be a benefit.

If we had NO divisions, Ball State would be in 11th place (out of 12) in our highly anticipated “wait ‘til next year” year.
Since we are in the West, we’re 5th. So, there’s that.....

Clearly the answer is that it's because we have a MAC East. You really need to try more one-liners. That was a good one.

Having Buffalo in the league is a good thing. Expansion of media market, good academics, similar athletics budget, appropriate geographically etc.!
I would like to see the league pick up a couple more teams. I wish we could have gotten Western Kentucky, Missouri State or even Northern Iowa albeit the geographical locations become more travel challenging.
Footprint of the league expands nicely as does media exposure.
