Always...A-L-W-A-Y-S... take your bumper and license plate with you when you hit and run.

Most of us learned that in high school.

I submit that this was probably an academic requirement for the Muncie School System, no?

I submit that this was probably an academic requirement for the Muncie School System, no? Well, duh. Nowadays meth production is a required course, but back in the day we were drilled on proper bumper/license plate management.

I can see a cottage industry where you sell tethers (like for Indy Car wheels) for your license plate bumper which attaches these critical components to the frame of the car. This would be to make sure they're never left in inappropriate places when fleeing any potential crime scenes.
Hmmmm.........where is that patent office website........

The paper leaves out alot of details that must have been hilarious. Did the cops confront him with the actual bumper when they found him? Did he even realize they were missing? I think cops, being only human, tend to relish situations like this where they really have the goods on someone. This would have made a great scene in an episode of "Cops".
"Son, do you recognize this bumper?" (Camera zooms to face of perp.)
Bad boys, bad boys Whatcha gonna do When your bumper and your plate come back to you?

So he drove drunk, wrecked, fled the scene and he's only getting suspended for one game?

So he drove drunk, wrecked, fled the scene and he's only getting suspended for one game? For now. I can see it expanding. (or even getting booted)

Somebody stole my bumper. I've never seen that bumper before.

Hmmmmm, doubtful but not impossible. The accident was around 2am and there must have been some additional time necessary for the cops to track him down. So how drunk would you have to have been at 8:30 to still blow .096 over 6 hours later?
But anyway, the kid made a major mistake in telling that story. He should have said he just now downed 4 or 5 shots, since he got home after the accident. Wouldn't that make an OWI charge impossible to hang on him?
Ok, I don't want to be too hard on the kid, but I'm thinking that his future as a criminal mastermind is in some doubt. Also the David Lee Roth hair should be cut off, now that it has grown out a good bit.

Yeah he also should have claimed he searched for the owner of the other vehicle and left a note on the windscreen. However don't be surprised if the county prosecutor drops the DUI charge.

There is now video available of the flight from the scene. Note bumper coming off at 1:01.
